Google Calendar event codes

    Google Calendar event codes

    Need some help, I would like to somehow denote things like; school days, vacation days, and holiday's using a code e.g. SD, VD, HD that I could parse and trigger/action accordantly. Ideally it would be nice to not have these codes spoken as part of the event text. Mike

      Google Calendar event codes

      I use the word "Vacation" as the event title and have the event start when I want my house to go into vacation mode and end when I want it to come out of vacation mode.

      I have a Handler setup looking for the keyword "Vacation" triggering a Vacation Start HS3 event on Before and a Vacation End HS3 event on After, which adjusts my House Mode virtual device.

      Google Calendar "Wake" events setup as recurring events for weekdays and weekends can be moved for school and work holidays. These also have handlers looking for their keywords that trigger HS3 events to wake up the house and kid's room.

        Michael, thanxs for the comeback and yes this is the sort of information I'm looking for, what I was hoping to see if there are different methods/plugins or techniques that users are using to set up house modes, announcement, ect..

        I typically have a morning announcement the tells the weather, and today's calendar events to give everyone heads-up for that day. So if one uses VD as a code for vacation, then VD will be announced which makes little sense to family but then a handler could trigger so there seems to be a fine balancing of having intelligible voice announcements and being able to trigger off of common words.

          Ahh, I see. I use standard words rather than codes and have the handlers setup to look for them (Vacation, Guests, Heat Pool, Spa On, Wake Sam, etc).

          In some cases I have several handlers for the same HS3 events setup with different keywords since I can't be trusted to remember, for example weather to call my google calendar event "Spa Heat" or "Heat Spa"

          I have not integrated my sonos with google calendar events since my wife does not like the house talking to her, so I don't have any experience balancing those issues.
