    Either the

    or

And of couse some type of Insteon device and pair of signal bridges. You can get a starter kit. Like http://www.smarthome.com/2492.html.

I should be getting my USB one on Wednessday. I'll let you know.

...or just buy some Insteon switches and use them in X10 mode and enjoy the more affordable 2 way switches and slowly migrate them to Insteon later.

          Hardware Purchase

I too am looking at starting to migrate over to Insteon and wondering where I should start. I currently have and have been using X10/CM11a. (all exterior lights and 95% of all interior light switches today are X10).

yeah i have the insteon starter kit and aninsteon keypad linc and a insteon switchlinc - but i have been using them in x-10 mode. so i will grab the powerlinc usb. i remember reading somethgin about some of them having old firmware on them though which caused problems. is this still an issue or can i be assured that they wil come with the right firmware now?

also - i have not yet made the leap to HS 2.0. i purchased it but just havent installed yet. am i correct in assumng that the insteon plugin is only for HS 2?

IF you order now the Interface should shipe with the latest firmware.

              The plugin does need HS2.0

                Pete,
The beauty is you can start by simply ordering switches and installing them and give them an X10 address. You can then migrate over to Insteon control by buying a Insteon controller. I havent' bought the RF phase couplers beause running in X10 mode uses my existing phase coupler.

Only if you are NOT going to use HS.

That's straight forward! One other question, everywhere I go there are problems with any USB controllers, same in the weather station world. What about these controllers?

a while ago i tried the 1132CU - the usb version of the cm11a (X10 controller) and it never worked right for me - but that could be just me - i have heard from a lot of people who said it works fine for them.
