Transfer HS3 from one PC to another PC

I currently have my HS3 on a windows 10 minipc with a HS z-wave USB stick which is working great however I'm maxing out on my CPU % on the current PC and wanted to transfer my setup to another PC with more horsepower.

I started by coping the entire "HomeSeer HS3" directory and associated children directories and files to the new PC, and attempted to start HS3 which kind of came up but not all of the devices nor plugins appeared when I looked in the Device Management and Plugin Manage tabs. I then took the z-wave stick from my original pc and plugged it into the new machine hoping that it would recognize my z-wave network but I did not see z-wave under plugin management

Can anyone provide proper guidance to transfer HS3 from one pc to another pc? thanxs in advance.

Mike, many thanxs for the quick comeback and link. I knew there had to be thread related to this but it eluded me using the HomeSeer search(s) hence the post.

Question: After reviewing the procedure, I did not see anything related to transferring the z-wave stick. I'm assuming that it should be self contained and simply remove from one PC and plug into the new PC, or is there something else I should be aware of? Mike

The Z-Wave stick keeps all of the ZWave nodes in the firmware of the stick.

Homeseer keeps a copy of the ZWave nodes.

So other than removing and plugging in the ZWave stick and making sure that the ZWave plugin can see it everything else happens automagically.

Having a directory backup of Homeseer will insure that you will not lose anything. ALL of the Homeseer stuff is in the Homeseer directory.

Thanxs Pete, I had thought the same but... I wanted to ensure that I did not messing anything up. I've been using BLBackup for a number of months (based on other user recommendation) now which works great (doesn't require the "me" in the loop) I did do a z-wave backup prior to starting the transfer for just in case precaution. I noticed on another thread that someone has provided a Perl script in conjunction with an event to do z-wave backups in a automatic fashion, will have to look into that after this project. Mike

Here automate and manually do backups. Similar to Homeseer 2. Right before any major update here shut down Homeseer 3 and manually copy the working directory. It is a bit overkill as I have backups of backups. This is for a just in case scenario and I want a visual of the backup directory.

There is a replicate of the backup directory on the NAS box.

Note too that the ZWave device keeps the ZWave nodes in firmware but does not keep the trigger / events for ZWave devices. That is kept by the HS3 database.

Searching the board is a recurring complaint. The best way is to use Google:

but finding that bit of wisdom is just has difficult as finding anything else.

@Pete, thanxs for the words of wisdom.

@Mike, thanxs I agree with you I should have used google (liken to I should have had a V-8!) I went to the procedure, me thinks it's dated as I can not find the license files (*.Is) nor the sample.mdb files the procedure references. Sooo I think I will at least reinstall my Plug-ins to ensure that the associated .dll are registered and then attempt to see if I come up properly before moving my z-wave stick. Mike

There's no need to do anything at all with license files and whatnot. All you do is:

                  1. Completely backup your entire HS folder. BLBackup does this nicely.

                  2. Install the same version of HS on your new system.

                  3. With the new installation NOT running, copy your old directory right over the new one, writing over any files.

                  4. Make sure all of your associated hardware is being pointed to correctly in HS. For example I have a USB sound card that the speaker client needs to know about and a USB modem for UltraCallerID and I have to configure BLRussound with the COM port that interfaces with the amp on the new system.

                  That's it really.

Colin, many thanxs your process worked like a champ "no mess, no fuss!" . Initially as I was bumbling with the other procedure I notice I only had 147 of my original 532 devices where I was starting to pull my hair out , doing it your way I had all of my devices, the z-wave stick worked with the correct COM3, and my modem for UltraCID point to the correct COM4 port. I'm now up and running with a 4% CPU vs 100% on my previous MiniPC and 16% Memory vs 40%. I'm a happy customer once again. Mike

                      Cheers!

It really is a painless process.

Good to know that you're using UltraCID though. The only hitch I've found in moving my system around is that it can some times take a while for UltraCID to work. No clue why but I think it's happened on all but one of my migrations. The problem seems to clear itself up in a matter of hours.

One thing I noticed is that my announcement voice has reverted to Microsoft Dave vs Microsoft Zira, not sure why? I have it set for my HomeSeer Speaker voice but haven't found it for my other speak e.g through SONOS. Mike

Update: Looking through my notes, the default voice is set by the Windows 10 which has Microsoft Dave as the default. While you can select a default (32-bit) voice within the HS speaker client, it does not set the system 32-bit default for the O/S. To get to the 32-bit voices and to set a default for the computer, which will also be used when HS generates TTS files for your Android clients, you need to go to the 32-bit voice controls here: C:\Windows\System32\Speech\SpeechUX\sapi.cpl and depress Enter. You can now see what 32-bit voices are installed and what is used as a default and make the necessary change for your default voice.

I should have reviewed the How To before I linked to it.

The contents of Colin's instructions are what I thought I was linking to. I apologize for the misleading link.
