Back on Trying to Get Tides to work.....

I'm probably doing something wrong, but this is what I'm getting for "Tides."

I have checked the "use tides" box. Also, the help file says, "(See the Weather Underground Extra Information section farther down)." Which I can't really find.

The following seems to render the correct data:

The Tide information is displayed on one of the user webpages.
When you select Yes to "Use Tide Info instead of normal forecast", it adds a new menu item to the user pages. The menu item it labeled Tides.

You have to select Weather Underground in the Forecast Source. After that, there is a section below the Use Tide info that lets you setup the API, Lat and Long.

OK, I already have the above set per the screen shot. I note, now, that my "Tide Location" says "No Status (Root)," which I don't remember seeing before.

So, I have 2 locations: (1) MyTown and (2) MyTown Tides No Status (Root).

What have I got bollixed up?

I setup a test location for testing tides. My xml file has the tide section but there was no data.

Can you check in the WUForecastN.xml file. The N will actually be a number that matches up to the location you setup for tide info.

You should see something like this near the top.

Near the bottom of the file you should find a section that starts with this
tideInfo>

Is there any data in that section?

I can't find anything that I think you have me searching for.... so, I'll just attach the file, so you can see what I think I see....

Your file does have the tide info. I saved a copy so that I can look over it to see if something has changed.

I can't promise that I will get to it soon. We are working on our house so that we can have it on the market by March. That has been taking all of my free time.

Family first. Building a house can be all consuming... been there, done that. I'm not envying you at this point (in construction), but the end result can be very satisfying.

Thanks for looking at it....though... tides are a convenience, not a deal breaker... although I've come to realize that WeatherXML is the backbone of many of my events... especially with the crazy swings of temperature here at the coast. Ice and 16 degrees on Monday and 73 degrees and shorts predicted on Friday!

Yes, I saw that the tide information was there, but never found "features>" or "tideinfo>", so I assumed the entire requisite "block" of information was not present.

I just installed this plug-in and I'm quite impressed. It certainly will take some time to grasp it. However, one of the most important features for me is the tides. My location is on an inter-coastal bay on Long Island so tides and moon phases are critical information.

I am curious as to where you stand with tides info, displaying, etc. Can tides be used to trigger events.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

If you setup a location with weather underground that is set to use tides, it will display the info on a web page. That is it currently.

I have a new version that has some major changes that will make it easier to add new devices, but we are in the process of buying a new house and moving. I won't be posting any new versions or working on any new features until we get moved and settled in.

I did the new house and moving thing almost two years ago. I'm still working on that project so hopefully you get that done sooner than me.

I'll wait impatiently hoping for usable tide and moon info. In the meantime, I sent a donation.

Playing with tides too. Had Tides set up on HS2 and somehow was able to send the tides information to a virtual device. Then I could trigger an event to send the tides information via text. Cant seem to figure how to do that or possibly that function is not available currently.

I have added the ability to select which data devices you want to setup.
See the first image below

That will create the selected devices and when the tide import runs the device string and device value (for height) will be updated.
Second image below.

The tide height devices will have the string set to the height as a string.
Ex. "-1.08 ft"
The device value would then be set to -1.08 allowing you to trigger events on the value change.

This will be in the next beta release, hopefully this weekend.
