I can look at the updated time in the xml file. Give me an idea of what you would want it to do. How long before it should be considered offline?

Well, I guess the Rolls-Royce answer is that it alerts me, falls over to another station, which takes the broken station's place, until the original comes back online.

Realistically, though, just a heads up that the "current" weather is bogus would probably be sufficient. The guy I usually use has occasional outages of 6-18 hours, probably until he gets home or up, realizes the PWS station has crashed, and gets things going, again....

      PS
I hope to have my own PWS, some day. Not sure what to ask for, but if I had my own station and it went down, what could WeatherXML do? What would I want it to do? (Just brainstorming.)

I am using an Ambient PWS. I use an UltraMon3 device to trigger a Pushover message to me when it goes offline. Keeping the software on the device up to date is also important. Ambient has addressed WiFi connection reliability in many of its updates since 2014, to the point that it never seems to drop offline any longer.

I am using an Ambient Weather WS-1001-WIFI OBSERVER. It has been very good for the two+ years we've been using it.

I've been looking at the Ambient Weather Stations as well.
The one I have ben looking at is the 1400-IP Observer. While looking through the documentation, I noticed that the receiver has a live data page built into the web server. It would be possible to get the data from that web page instead of having to upload it to Weather Underground and then download it via their API.

ewkarnes, do you by chance have the backup file option turned on? If possible I would like to get a copy of the xml file from this morning.

If there is a way to tell when the last time the station reported in, I can add it as a HS event trigger. That would allow you to do anything that you can do in an event.

I don't, but I'd be glad to turn it on..... which one is appropriate? Also, it this something I should be doing?

FWIW, my local PWS came back on line about 2 hours after I posted, but is now, offline again.... maybe I can yet capture what you need....

On the schedules page, select the conditions schedule. Click the checkbox for Save Backup. Set the How Many to 24. That will save a the 24 newest xml files and give you time to grab them tomorrow if you don't get a chance to tonight.

You can manually run it now and see if the station is still offline. if so grab the current file and send it to me. Go ahead and let the backups run over night and send them to me as well. I'll see what can be used to tell if it is online or not.
