HomeTroller S6 trying to make Static IP and may have screwed something up

Hi, I am new to Homeseer and am working on the Hometroller S6 remotely and was trying to change the IP address to static from dynamic and under tools/networking all I could find was bind the IP (I think it was) and I clicked it to the existing static IP because there were no other choices and realized I could not type one in, then when I switched it back to unbind I cannot get into the homeseer. It sees it with find.homeseer.com (with the same IP address) and I can see it is live if I do an IP scan on the local PC on that network, but cannot get into it. The browser wheel just spins and it doesn't time out or anything? I can get into the Z-Net boxes. Any suggestions? Thanks.

You may need to hookup a keyboard and monitor to it, or try accessing it with remote desktop. Once you have access, shut down HS3, and the edit the settings.ini file in the Config folder under the main HS3 folder (typically c:\program files\HomeSeer HS3 for 32 bit systems or c:\program files (x86)\HomeSeer HS3 for 64 bit systems. Look for the entries that correspond to the settings you changed.

    Cheers
    Al

      Hi Al,
Thank you for the response. I am not there, so I may have to try remote desktop. Do you know if it is installed by default? If so how I can access it? Thanks again.

I believe it is, but I don't have an S6, so not 100 percent sure.

VNC comes preloaded on the HT S6's.

VNC server comes installed on the S6. According to the getting started guide (page 3) it can be accessed via a browser but that didn't work for me. Instead download VNC viewer from https://www.realvnc.com/download/viewer/ and install on your desktop/laptop.

Unless the S6 load image has changed since 6 months ago, you might have the same issue I did, see http://board.homeseer.com/showpost.p...36&postcount=7

Addressing your original question, you can't change to a static IP address from within Homeseer. You have to do that from the desktop, see http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/w...#1TC=windows-7

The place you changed, "Bind server to IP Address" just limits the interface the HS webserver listens and responds on. Normally this is set to "No binding", which means it will respond on any interface. On mine the other selections are "127.0.0.1", "192.168.1.x" and "192.168.1.y" which correspond to the local interface, the wired Ethernet, and the wireless Ethernet.

Thank you guys, is there a default password for the vnc login?

Thank you for the attached, the good news is I can now get onto HS3, but VNC is a nice option if I run into a problem again. I am now getting this error when I try to VNC in:

RFB protocol error: bad desktop size 0x0?

Thats the problem I was referring to in my 1st post. I had to connect a monitor & keyboard and run the procedure shown here
                    http://board.homeseer.com/showpost.p...36&postcount=7

Before running that, VNC connect only worked when a display was attached (which pretty much defeats the purpose). Now it works flawlessly.

Gotcha, OK I will try that when I am back down there. Thank you again.
