HTTP Error 408: Server Timed Out Error With Sanyo 8100 PCS Phone?

I downloaded the lattest WAPSeer Plugin and registered it today. I also now have high speed cable internet. Don't know how I got along with it for so long. When I go to the URL 67.161.80.136:8080/WAPSeer.ash it tries to connect, but I get the following error: HTTP Error 408: Server Timed Out. Need some help resolving this issue. Thanks much in advance !!!!

    P.S.
I have been able to bring up the page with the version before the one I downloaded today. I have listed all 128 variables in the device screen for the Applied Digital Ocelot, so maybe it is taking too long to bring up. Is there a way to get by the timeout error? Before I only had about 16 total devices to display and very few events, as I am still experimenting with Homeseer, etc.

    Rick,

    Thanks for registering!

I checked the URL you posted, and I am unable to access it using Internet Explorer from my end. I should at least be prompted for an ID and password when I attempt to access the page if everything is running right.

Did you by any chance install a router along with your new broadband access? If you did, you will need to open up a port on the router to the PC that's running HomeSeer. See your router's manual (usually there is a section on how to run a web server from behind the router) for details on how to do this.

I'm also unable to "ping" the address you gave. This may indicate that the router/cable modem is down right now, or has changed addresses. It could also be because your cable company is not allowing inbound ping traffic, in which case the fact I can't ping it really donesn't mean anything.

      Justin,
For some reason, I get this same error when trying to access the web at all with the phone. I wonder if the Sprint Network is having problems this weekend? I did purchase a Netgear Wireless Router and I have three computers using the internet connection. Works really well. The router must be working otherwise I wouldn't be able to access the internet with the computers. I am assuming this is correct thinking. I will look into opening a port in the router. When I use the address you posted to check the IP address it always comes back with the address I posted. This must mean that the IP Address is staying constant. Would this be a correct assumption? Thanks for you help and any further tips on getting up and running would be much appreciated.

Not that I have seen here. You are unable to access the main Vision pages even (when you open the browser after powering the phone up, it still returns this error)? If that's the case, you should contact Sprint's Vision support desk as you may either be having a local network issue or your phone may need re-provisioning. Call 888-211-4727 from a land line, tell Claire (ugh) "representative" until you get one, and walk through your problem with the rep. They'll no doubt transfer you to the Vision desk. It's important to call from a land line so your cell phone is free for the Vision specialist to work your issues through on with you.

Even if your router is allowing you to browse outside web pages, it still needs the port opened in order for you to browse to a system "behind it". The router has a single IP address that it's sharing with all the (3 you say) systems you have connected to it. When you try to browse to your IP address, you're actually browsing to the router's IP address. Until you open a port, the router has no idea which of your computers to send the request from your phone to, so it simply ignores it. Once the port is open, the router will see the incoming request to port 8080 from your phone, forward it to your system running HomeSeer, and forward the results back to your phone.

          Justin,
Thanks for the help. I called Sprint and they said that they have been receiving similar calls from other people. It appears that they do have some network issues they are working on. In the meantime I will work on opening port 8080 on the router. Thanks again for your help and I will keep you posted.

            Justin,
I had a chance to work with my router to set up access of Homeseer from the Web and cell phone.
In the Netgear router setup screens there is a selection for port forwarding. I'm a bit confused with the selections. There is first of all a selection for Service. I chose HTTP for this selection. Then there is a port begin and end address and I put 8080 in both of these fields.
The last field is the IP Address Field. The IP address of the router must be 67.161.80.136. When I run your ShowIP Address program on each computer it comes up with this address. The IP Address of the computer that is running Homeseer is 192.168.0.2. Which IP address do I enter in the IP Address field to open up port 8080. Seems that it should be the IP Address of the computer running Homeseer. Does this sound correct. If this be the case, then would I need to change the URL that I goto with the cell phone to 192.168.0.2:8080/WAPSeer.ash? Also, as a side question, if I just want to access the Homeseer page from work, what address would I use to do this? Thanks for all your help and looking forward to getting this network stuff straightened up. As you can tell I am a newbie to networking.

It'd probably be easiest if you just told me what exact model of Netgear router you have. You've told me the rest of the information, so if you tell me the model I can pull the manual and give you step by step configuration instructions.

It is the Netgear 814 Wireless Router. Thanks again for all your help.

From the Main Menu of the browser interface to your router (while browsed to http://192.168.0.1/), click on Port Forwarding under Advanced. Click the "Add Custom Service" button. Enter "8080" in both the starting and ending port number boxes. Enter "192.168.0.2" in the Server IP Address box. Type a name for it, like "HS Web" and click Apply.

From your HOME PCs, you will access the HS web page from http://192.168.0.2:8080/ . From anywhere else on the Internet, you will use http://67.161.80.136:8080/ . And finally, for WAPSeer from your phone: http://67.161.80.136:8080/WAPSeer.ash .

                  Good luck!

                    Justin,
That took care of all my access problems including WAPSeer. I have been successfull in accessing the Homeseer Web Page from an external source and I was also able to access the WAPSeer with my cell phone. I actually controlled a couple of devices with the phone !!!!! Too Cool !!!!!!!! Thanks much for your prompt replies and great help !!!!! WAPSeer is at the top of my list of Homeseer Plug-ins. Thanks again !!!!!
