Trigger/condition on device string possible?

I want to trigger an event when a device string changes but i can't find any case to do so. Is this possible in any way?

Ps, i've seen the EasyTrigger plugin but to use that for just one trigger that happens maybe once every two weeks is a bit much overkill.

AFAIK ET is the only way to trigger an event or include a condition on the device string. I find it to be a pretty useful plug-in, though, and I suspect if you install it you will discover more ways you can use it.
