    IRLinc 1623PC as a learner

I have been curious to see if I can use the IRLinc 1623PC as a learner for other devices, namely the GC-100. After some trial and error, I discovered that the 1623PC uses the following serial port protocol: 19200,n,8,1 with RTS handshaking. I am able to send a command to initiate a learn. When it learns the IR signal, it returns what appears to be a string that contains the timing for the pulses. It looks very similar to the global cache format of on/off pairs. There is plenty of documentation on the global cache format, so it is easy to understand. Unfortionately, I do not have a GC-IRL. If I did, I could learn a singal through the CG-100, then compair the string to what the 1623PC outputs for the same IR signal and try to decifer it.

Maybe someone has already figured out the data stream from the IRLinc 1623PC. If so, post an explaination.

PS, I know this device is old tech, but if there is a way to use it as a standalone learner then it would save people having to buy a propriatery learner.

homeseer had the source code to the learning software on their website years ago. it was a visual basic app. see if its there. if not, it may be on the drivers disk. i can look tonight when i get home.

Anybody have any documentation on the format?

I have done some decoding on my own with some signals that I can compare with the pronto hex. This is a sample of what the IRLinc 1623PC outputs.

The first hex digit tells how many digits are to follow.

The next three is the memory slot that the code is stored in.

The next digit tells how many digits are to follow.

The next two digits, I suspect has to do with the carrier frequency, but I am not sure.

The next digit tells how many unique on/off pulse definitions are to follow. In this case 4.

Next are the definitions of the unique on/off pulses that are found in the received IR pulse train. Only one definition is made for repeated pulses so that each definition is unique. Also, the defintions are ordered from longest total width to shortest. They are 4 bytes each. The first two bytes are on time and the last two bytes are off time. For example 00D1h=209 and 919Dh=37277 so the pulse is on for 209 units and off for 37277 units. I am not sure of how the units are calculated.

Next is a digit that I have no idea what it is.

Last is the pulse train definition. It is a string of nibbles (half of the hex number). Each nibble coresponds to an on/off pulse as described by the previous section. The nibbles range from 0 to n-1 where n is the number of unique pulse definitions. For the example given the pulse train would be
      13323232332332233333333232333333322232333322323230.

That is what I have so far. If anyone else has already figured this out or has some documentation, it would be nice. I am not sure of how much more I can figure out without having some way comparing signals.

i stand corrected, it was smarthome that used to have the source code, but they have removed it. i found the driver disk but that doesnt have it either.

Thanks. I e-mailed Smarthome for it. Who wants to bet I won't get a reply.

            Any luck with this?

I have IR1623 PCs and GC-100 and IRL, let me know if I can send you some codes to compare against.
