I went to a 64bit OS and the pci card no longer works. I do however see ebay is now selling 64bit cctv cards.. pci-e 1x....

    so here is the deal...

I had someone steal our hockey net out of our back yard so i want to get something up and running..

It's been some 5-6 years now of the same issue you have had relating to getting a 64bit capture card running on your server.

It is not worth playing around with a capture card these days with the all of the new IP HD low cost cameras around.

I consider you a Homeseer friend; and we are now in the year two thousand fifteen; well too I have played with this stuff for some 20 years now.

If you want use one of the Axis 2400+ servers I have. These would work with your analog cameras. Plug n play; you don't have to ... around with it.

    Radio Shack is now gone.

The Schlage IP SD cameras are good cameras with the modified / updated firmware....but they are SD cameras.

You can now get HD cameras for almost the same price you paid for the Schlage cameras.

You budget is $100. Buy the Axis server 2400+ (look below); install Zoneminder (free; 1,2,3 easy peasy installation of a 64bit NVR VM). Play with the live ISO of Zoneminder. Its purely a web gui configuration.

You can also purchase a 5MP HD camera, multiple streams of HD/SD and get a wide angle lense for it such that you can cover your entire back yard. (it will be a bit more than $100).

Even cheaper would be just sleeping outside on a rocking chair in your back yard. It's warming up here in the midwest and all the snow has melted. Bring a TV outside if you want.

Years ago I would leave a spare parrot cage on my deck. (1980's). Thing was big and heavy. Someone did take it one day. Who the heck would want a parrot cages anyways.

Yes. All via the webgui; plugnplay. You do not have to know Linux to manage Zoneminder these days. BTW you can stream almost every IP camera made today and capture the stream with ZM. The OS of ZM is not propietary and ZM is free and probably the most utilized CCTV/NVR application in the world today.

A 64bit Ubuntu 14.04 VM using 2 cores and about 4Gb of RAM would suffice for your stuff. Geeze the build would be some 4-5Gb at the most.

Zoneminder will stream and record analog captures or digital IP cameras. I am moving from the 8 port analog capture card to all IP today with Zoneminder. Zoneminder captures the Axis 2400+ stream per camera plus my Grandstream IP HD cameras.

You can set the recording on the Zoneminder to 24/7 or use the video algorithms to detect events and just record/save those. Whatever you do ZM is always recording the streams. IE: an event recording goes back in time and saves the event however you have it defined timewise and trigger wise. If you want to do a virtual analog recording thing you can trigger recordings with X10 wireless outdoor sensors type stuff.

Still have not updated my Optex analog cams. As old as they are I have not seen a same said replacement for it today. It is very modular and I can now fit an HD IP POE camera where the camera board is in the device today. Looking at a ~ 160 degree lens 5MP POE Grandstream OS camera board for the driveway view IP camera.

Zoneminder in Linux has way much less overhead than Blue Iris in Windows. That is my personal opinion.

Zoneminder old and new has always included mobile applications with transcoding. Today it also incorporates iOS / Iphone stuff via EyeZM.

The Axis 2400+ server just eliminates the manual capture via a capture card and is plug n play. The analog streams are SD due to the limits of an analog camera.

All new IP cameras are Grandstream. I have also DIY'd a "few" using Grandstream OS IP boards and a variety of lenses. The Grandstream OS / boards all have the set up for recording to USB, POE and SIP. SIP is unique.

Old IP cams is a Hodgepodge (still have Panasonic IP cams around).

ZM will do well in a VM if you give it some CPU / memory. The higher the definition of the stream the more work the computer does.

Type are POE/3-5 MP with a variety of lenses; all with Grandstream OS.

For a while I had picked the 2.X to 3.6mm lens for outdoor use. Now the choices are better.

                        Check out this NVR.

                        It is reasonably priced.

I do different with my CCTV as I utilize HAI stuff here too (Omnitouch screens see analog and digital cams utilizing more Grandstream stuff, Zoneminder, Axis and an HAI video hub / touchscreen hub).
