    Replacing a KeypadLinc

There's some kind of substation upgrade going on here and apparently today's brief power interruption was one too many for one of my KeypadLincs. (It has locked up each time which is about once a day for the last several days. Today, it won't recover.) It's configured as eight buttons and is a KeypadLinc V2 Dimmer, Firmware Version: 2D. I've ordered a replacement that will probably be Dual-Band KeypadLinc Dimmer, Firmware Version: 43.
I am still on HS2. What is the least painful way to do this replacement? Is there any way to keep the same house and device codes for each of the keys?

there is a 'replace this device' btn on the exsting device edit page within the plugin.

Very important: Do not delete the exsting device from the plugin!. just click he 'replace this device' and following the instructions on the next page.

Thanks. I'll try it when the new switch gets here.

So, it looks like a factory reset may have the old keypadlinc working again. I changed it back from the default 6 button configuration to 8 buttons, but now I am at a loss as to how to reprogram the 60 or so links into it.
I tried edit device links, but all it does is offer to let me delete the links (that are already out of the device anyway).
It does say this "WARNING: Deleting links can cause devices to function improperly. Using the 'Reprogram links' and 'Reprogram group' options in the device and group edit page will restore the links that are managed by this plug-in, but NOT OTHER LINKS, SUCH AS THOSE CREATED MANUALLY BY TAP-LINKING DEVICES!"

"Reprogram links" sounds like exactly what I need, but I can't seem to find it anywhere. I have HS2 with Plug-In v2.0.0.15.

there is no way to reprogram the device links from the existing links on the screen.

you should print the links screen for reference. then read the links which will clear all the links. then 'program device for homeseer', then add your links.

I think I'll just wait for the new switch then. That sounds less painful, assuming that replace-device will copy the links on the screen into the new keypad.

Okay, I have the new keypadlinc, and it's not going so well. When I try replace device, it ends with this:
Your system could not be reprogrammed. Program And Replace Device - The destination device could not be programmed, function aborted before system/device changes were made.

the kpl is responding as if it doesn't recognize the plm as a valid controller

how about as a test, see if you can register the new kpl as a new device. if this works, delete the device from the registration, and then try the replace routine

if this doesn't work, then I'm out of ideas

                      That did it.

                      Now we have joy.
Adding it as a new device, deleting it, then running replace worked. I haven't fully verified that all links and groups are there, but so far everything I've tried has worked.

Thanks much, especially on a Saturday. I do appreciate it.

While you're looking, I have this new odd one in the log...

Unknown command sent to KPL buttons...exiting

I think it's related to my attempt to combine the top two buttons (making a 7 button keypadlinc). It worked for the older keypadlinc, but not as much for the new one. It's not a big deal, and I'm sure I can get around it one way or another...
