Solar tracking for lighting and shades?

Has anyone done any work on adjusting shades and lighting based on solar tracking?

As in, using different schemes for the shades based on the changing solar angles over the course of the year. What works in the summer doesn't in the winter, and vice-versa.

Many years ago played with solar tracking and UV numbers. A local installed device will provide best calculations. I used it for my weather station numbers and those were utilized for ET calculations for irrigation.

Methodologies of use involved 1-wire sensors light and temperature. The variable was used in Homeseer 2 and you could trigger any events with the values or scripts using the values.

One way that worked for me was using a 1-Wire temperature sensor air tight installed in a baby food jar. Sunlight winter or summer worked.

Another way was using a ping pong ball with a 1-wire light sensor and a small dual RJ-11 telco box with a 1-wire board and the light sensor.

A third way was provided via a couple of Cumulus weather folks called BL-Sun Recorder. (cheap when beta testing and now a commercial company and very expensive).

A fourth way is to utilize the optional sun sensors on the Davis Vantage Pro weather stations.

You can easily tinker with a RPi2 / 1-wire sensors.

Google the Cumulus forum for solar / sunlight sensors.

I control my west side blinds based on outside temperature, time of day and the average luminance of two outdoor sensors (east and west side)
