      Was this problem ever resolved???

I'm having the very same issues ever since I switched from HS2 to HS3. Namely, I get loads of these in the log:

X10 WARNING CM11A Possible no response to send data, still waiting

and X10 commands take several seconds to send and then often get repeated 3 or 4 times. I'm have an edgeport USB to RS232 serial port connected to a CM11A plugged into an XTBRII.

I'm very frustrated with X10 performance and any help is much appreciated.

While I know that the Edgeport is the highly recommended, I had issues with mine when I moved to HS3. I ran identical equipment for many months on an HS2 box and a new HS3 box. For whatever reason -drivers or whatever - I couldn't keep the Edgeport working. I tried a couple of different USB devices (maybe even one that HST sold) before I found one that has been rock solid. Might be worth a try using a different device.

I'd suggest you try removing the XTB-IIR from the equation and see what happens. When I asked Jeff about using a CM11 with and XTB-IIR, he was concerned that the signal would be distorted because the input signal would be too strong. I opted for an XTB-232 as my PIM and am getting excellent performance with HS3. (I'm also using an Edgeport/8 as my serial-to-USB converter.)

I tried taking the Edgeport out of the equasion by connecting the XTB direct to the serial on the PC and it made no difference.

When I moved from HS2 to HS3 I had all kinds of problems with my USB to serial cables. For a year, I was never able to achieve more than a week of HS3 uptime. 6 months ago, I bought 2 digi Edgeport 8 on EBay. Since then, I am seeing HS3 up times of 30 days or more. That is better than I ever had with HS2.

I too have had problems with the X10-CM11 plugin, but have found by process of elimination that the connection from the PC to the interface, in my case XTB-232, is very fickle. I tried a number of cables/adaptors before I found one that was stable.

Which version of Windows? I've noticed that Win 10 does not play well with many USB/Serial adapters that work well with Win 7, even after updating drivers.

Windows 10 updates are auto updating older USB drivers with certified Microsoft drivers could be one issue. This relates to an onslaught of cloned USB hardware coming from the pacific rim from a few years ago.

Personally here ran in to this issue with Asix USB to Network devices which looked like the real deal. Used for testing. Purchased cheap here at $1 each but did notice that the prices had gone up to almost the real deal. Only thing was that the hardware was not Asix; rather a bad clone. I had purchased quite a few of these and did get a refund and did end up purchasing a few Asix devices which did work just fine for my testing.

The above said here went to using Digi stuff a few years back. Old / current HS2 Windows servers / HS3 Ubuntu is using same combination Digi stuff as a few years back which is a one USB connection to a 7 port Digi USB hub and two Digi 8 port serial Edgeports. BTW new Digi stuff is expensive such that the Edgeports were mostly purchased refurbished / new old stock.

Here switched over to Jeff Volp's XTB stuff way long time ago. Today the CM11A / original XTB device continues to work just fine. Updated my TW-523 stuff to the dual XTB stuff and that too is working just fine (do Christmas lighting with X10 today). All I can say about Volp's X10 stuff is well built and works and never has given me any issues (well now past 10 years of use). Personally the dual phased power line devices do well and better than signal coupling phases with bridges. (that is me and my opinion).

                      Hi Gordon,

I finally found some time today to evaluate the debug log that you posted above - thank you very much for doing this!

Based on the info in the log, the X10 plugin is operating properly and there does not appear to be a problem with the communication link between your PC and the XTB. However, there is definitely a problem with one or more of the following:
                      • the XTB device itself (perhaps setting on the device?)
                      • noise or lots of traffic on your power line preventing the XTB from operating properly.

Here is how the plugin communicates with your XTB:
                      1. Plugin sends X10 command to the XTB.
                      2. Plugin waits for a '55' from the device (55 is the code for "acknowledge" indicating the command was accepted by the device).
                      3. Plugin then waits for a checksum to be returned from the device (indicating that the command was sent on the power line and the device is ready for another command).

In your log I see that in every instance the XTB device responds immediately with the Ack which means that the communication link between the PC and XTB appears to be working properly, and the fact that switching between your USB->RS232, RS232 port on your PC and the Edgeport made no difference supports this.

In your log there were 49 attempts to send commands on the power line...

There were 24 instances where the plugin and XTB successfully executed a command immediately, and here is an example:
                      Code:
                      25-Aug	21:09:01	X10 DEBUG CM11A Sending: B6 25 Size: 2
                      25-Aug	21:09:01	X10 DEBUG CM11A Got ack of: 55
                      25-Aug	21:09:01	X10 DEBUG CM11A Checksum OK, sending 0
                      25-Aug	21:09:01	X10 DEBUG CM11A Got checksum: 2D
And there were 25 instances where the plugin sent a command but did not receive a checksum right away and had to wait around for it:
                      Code:
                      25-Aug	21:09:07	X10 DEBUG CM11A Sending: B6 25 Size: 2
                      25-Aug	21:09:07	X10 DEBUG CM11A Got ack of: 55
25-Aug	21:09:09	X10 WARNING CM11A Possible no response to send data, still waiting
                      25-Aug	21:09:12	X10 DEBUG CM11A Checksum OK, sending 0
                      25-Aug	21:09:12	X10 DEBUG CM11A Got checksum: DB
In this particular case, the XTB had to wait for 5 seconds before receiving the checksum (indicating that the command was sent successfully), and this means that the XTB is having trouble sending the command onto the power line.

Here is your log with each command separated out so you can see the times to send:
                      Code:

To reiterate what I said above, the comm link between your PC and XTB appears to be working properly and it looks like the XTB is having trouble sending data onto the power line. I do not have an XTB device but I understand it is a functionally identical to the CM11A. Are there DIP switches on the device (like the Ti103) or some settings for the device which could be causing these delays in sending? I recall you saying that you tested for noise and found none, but is it possible that something has changed on your power line (like new devices being plugged in) that are creating noise or interference?
                      Best regards,
                      -Mark-

                        Mark,
I am also using an XTB-232 and AFAIK there are no settings for the device. You can get more information here: http://jvde.us/xtb-232.htm
It might be useful for you to contact Jeff Volp directly to see if he has any insight into what might be causing the symptoms Gordon is seeing.

Thanks for spending time on this Mike. There are no switches on the XTB that I can find, however changed the XTB for my spare, have 2 as one was connected to HS2 and one to HS3 during conversion, changing them made no difference. Plugged in the XTBM little or no noise on the line, however did notice that time or manually triggered events fire immediately, but, events triggered by a device change tend to delay, however if they ever do trigger the X10 is sent immediately. Also discovered if I manually change a device on to off or otherwise using the web interface is very hit and miss, both zwave and X10, if I use Imperihome the device responds immediately - weird!

Therefore I am thinking the problem is not the X10 plugin, but lies deeper thought no idea where to start.

                            Hi Michael,

Thanks for the clarification on the XTB and for the suggestion. I'll reach out to Jeff to learn more about his devices.

Thank you again for your support!!!

                              Hi Gordon,

Thank you for the additional details on the issues - it is helpful to understand the larger picture.

The fact that you are having isssues controlling zwave devices in addition to X10 devices definitely points to something other than the X10 plugin.

                              A few questions:
                              1. Have you checked the CPU utilization to see if your system is overloaded when the issues occur?
                              2. Have you checked your Windows event logs for any application or system errors?
                              3. Is it possible that your hard drive (or SSD) is having problems?
                              4. Is the issue intermittent or continuous?
                              5. What version of HS are you running?

I also agree with Pete that a good place to start is to disable all of your installed plugins, then enable just the X10 plugin and see how it reacts in each of the situations you mentioned: time/manually triggered events, device change events, control from web, etc. If it's ok then enable zWave and test each again. Be methodical and go through the same test steps each time and write down the results. This will help to see any irregularities and hopefully find the point where things begin to fall apart.

I know this is frustrating but hang in there, we'll do what we can to help get you through this!!
                              Best regards,

                                Just watching intently...

as I'm having the same issues with my EdgePort to CM11A to XTB-IIR combo. Lots of errors and trigger delays. I have an old Leviton X10 repeater/bridge in a subpanel on my electrical system that I'm pretty sure I never removed. I wonder if this is "fighting" with my XTB-IIR....

Is there an easy way to see what X1) traffic I have on the line? My X10 switch LEDs do seem to blink a lot occasionally.
