    Ibeacons and geofency

    Hi ibeacon-folks.
I got med RAD beacons and started playing with geofency. I found the beacon allright but I cannot connect to Homeseer.
When is go to the webhooks I either get an time out of a fail box with a lot of what look like HTML in it.
    Any inputs?
I tried using both the homeseer port (82) and the port (8804) set in the PHLocation server setting.

ie. in the webhooks I write http://10.0.0.2:82/phlgeofency
and I tried with 10.0.0.2:8804/phlgeofency too.

    any inputs?

Do I have to create a geofency entry in via the PHLocation interface in homeseer first and add the UUID before it works? (I have tried that too)
    Best,

Have you opened a port on your router?

@Jakob.Sand, I found that if you turn your Firewall completely OFF; be aware that there are three aspects; Domain Profile, Private Profile and Public Profile that you eliminate your any firewall problems.

Ensure that you've enabled your port forwarding within your router for a single port forwarding with both the external and internal ports set to the PHLocation Server Port that you've setup previously within the PHLocation PI.

I'm assuming that your accessing via WAN and have a external IP address already established, if not you need to set one up, I used "NO-IP" services (thanxs to @integlikewhoa suggestion) which is fairly straight forward to establish and works..

I found this procedure which helped verify if I was able to communicate to PHLocation PI as Blocked Port as a common issue is that a firewall or some other software is blocking communication on the port that the plug-in is listening on.

          LAN Test
To test if it is a router firewall issue enter http://192.168.X.XX:XXXX/phlgeofency url's into a web browser on the same LAN as the Homeseer server is running on.

You should be prompted for a user name and password (assuming you are not using the bypass IP's feature).

Enter the user name/password configured in the plug-in's http server settings and you should get a "Bad Data" message back to the browser and in the Log.

PHLocation Error - (httpprocrequest) Empty data string!

The Bad Data message indicates that the plug-in can communicate on the local LAN.

          WAN Test
Try the same test from a web browser on a machine (iPhone with Wifi turned OFF) outside the LAN. enter http://XXX.hopto.org:XXXX/phlgeofency url's into a web should get the same as above.

If this test fails then it is likely your router that is blocking traffic on the selected port.
See your router manual for details on how to open a port and direct traffic to a given machine.

If both tests fail then it is likely that some firewall or other software on the HS server is blocking the port. Try disabling any firewalls temporarily and repeat the above tests. If the tests succeed, then you need to configure a firewall rule to allow incoming traffic on the selected port. (do this step at a later time after you get everything working!).

Once you've tested successfully with the sets above.. you should be able to go to GeoFency and perform a "Webhook".

Don't feel bad, it took me a while before I was able to do the above as there seems to be no real procedure to help those who have not traveled this road. I hope I did not make this too difficult and this helps you to down the path of Geo Fence enlightenment . Mike

Well, I finally received three RadBeacon USB devices, I able to configure them using the RadBeacon on my iPhone with no problem within the 30 minute configure window (when one first plugs the device in it allows configuration of the device for a 30 minute window). My problem is when I try to pair the device with the same phone and/or iPad by going to Settings>Bluetooth I do not see any of the devices come up for pairing, tried turning Bluetooth On/Off/On and doing a iPhone reset/reboot to no avail what am I missing? Mike. You don't pair them via Bluetooth, you set them up as iBeacons in a 3rd party app, Geofency. Then you configure web hooks in GeoFency to update the status of PHLocation devices in HS3. I can send more details later if that's not immediately obvious. Do you have PHLocation installed already?

James, thanxs for the comeback and direction(s). As usual I was trying to multiplex multiple things and when things don't work the first time . I've just got back from shopping for school clothes and will attempt adding my RadBeacon via GeoFency this evening, is there anything I need to do to Major/Minor values currently they are set to 0/0? Mike

Yes I have both GeoFency and PHLocation installed and running for my iPhone.

yes, the major/minor IDs need to be unique in your environment. I think they default them all to the same at the factory. Any combo should work as long as they're all unique. Major 1 and Minor 1, Major 1 and Minor 2, Major 1 and Minor 3 etc

James, thanxs for comeback. So I've successfully include my three iBeacon's within GeoFency setting each up with a unique Major/Minor IDs; Major 1 and Minor 2, Major 1 and Minor 3, Major 1 and Minor 4. Geofency logged each device as "IN" but around 14minutes for the 1st one and 11 minutes for second iBeacon it logged the as "OUT", I looking to see how the third iBeacon fairs (currently at 20 minutes). I would have thought that whilst I'm only a few feet from each of them that they would be all alive and "IN" any thoughts. I've reset the 1st and 2nd devices and am hoping that they stay "IN", Mike

Out of curiosity what is average range of these devices?

Update: I originally had the first two device included with major/minor ids both set at 1/1, I've since changed them to 1/4 and 1/2 which appears to have remedied the problem, will monitor overnight to ensue. Once this issue is resolved what method did you employ to reduce broadcasting range to avoid cross over between broadcasting devices?

Good progress. Do you have them updating in PHL/HS3?

I have the power on my 2 fairly low as they are in our cars and therefore crossover isn't in play. I use them in combo with GeoFency fences and HS3 events

                          E.g.

If in car (HS3 was poked by GeoFency when I approached my car)
And if I cross my home Geofence (HS3 was poked by GeoFency again)
                          Then, do stuff

                          Stuff examples:
                          Open garage door if closed
                          Initiate lighting scene
Turn on music of my choice

                          Etc etc.

Well after soaking overnight I have two devices that have been "IN" state continuously since 10:30 pm yesterday, the first device went "OFF" state early this morning (~6:22 am) for about 2.1 hrs then came back on line "IN". I think I will reset that device back to the factory setting, as I was playing with its various settings before getting your guidance and see if that might remedies this device.

Depending on where you have these devices, you would expect them to go IN/OUT of range as your phone moves in relation to them. That's most likely what you want them to do. Unless of course, you have all of them alongside each other and the phone wasn't moving and they were still behaving differently.

I checked my RAD Beacon settings again this morning. I have the signal strength set to just below 1/2 power, with the advertising rate at the max. Given that I just need to know whether I am in the car or not (i.e. I am not trying to determine where I am in the house) this works well for me. You'd need to play with the settings until you find levels that work for your use cases.

Thanxs James, question in regards to PHLocation and GeoFency. I successfully included the iBeacons to the GeoFency App that work as I move in/out of range. In regards to PHLocation>Users/Devices tab do I create a "DV Device" for each iBeacon or a single device for GeoFency perimeter(s). The reason I ask is that when I do a GeoFency App Webhook Enter/Exit test the incoming Fence device ID is the same for all three devices? What am I missing to ge mulitple GeoFency devices/children?
