Isn't HomeTroller just a HomeSeer hardware/software bundle? If so, just install drule's plug-in and configure as directed. You'd have to run the VM on a different machine or buy a raspberry PI ($35) and run it on that. I run it on the Pi at home. Install takes about 2 hours vs. my personal best of 10m 50s on Linux VM on corei7

Hey Mark. I'm stuck. I just downloaded the whole vmware version that you posted and followed the steps. When I did the ping guzzoni.apple.com thing nothing happened, it just kind of timed out. Is that what is supposed to happen or was I supposed to see an IP address come up. Also, I'm confused as to how to get the certificates via email as I never use linux. I downloaded WinSCP for windows but what do I put in session, etc.? Thanks, sorry for my ignorance.

          Hi jayman

          A few things

If you run ifconfig, does it return an address on your local LAN?

If not, you'll need to make sure you have bridged mode on in VMWare and you have setup a DHCP reservation for the virtual machines MAC address (also in ifconfig). If you can't setup a DHCP reservation, you'll have to give the Linux machine a static IP (afraid you'll have to google it, as I haven't done that for years)

If it is a good IP, try and ping your router and google.com to see if you have any internet conectivity

You could also try sudo reboot if you've changed anything in the network settings

          Regards

          Mark

That would be awesome. I'm pretty close. I'm trying to change the user permissions for TriggerEvent.sh using the "chmod 774 TriggerEvent.sh" command but it keeps saying operation not permitted. Is there a way to change permission?

Try putting sudo in front of it

Tried that. Doesn't work. "Root" is still the owner.

Strange If you created it as use Siri

                      Try

                      su -

                      Enter root password

                      Chmod
                      Ctrl-d

                      Failing that login as root

                      cd /home/siri/SiriProxy

                      chmod

I think that fixed it. But bear with me. I'm now getting "socat not found" when I put in the test command before running the server again.

                          You need to run

                          sudo apt-get install socat

Sounds like I need to review the instructions

Thanks. Probably doesn't help that I've been jumping around the instructions though. I think if I read through the entire thing I'd have a better understanding. That did it. One other thing, when you are running linux commands like your listen_for /bedtime/ one, where do you put that?

I am stuck at the install certificate. Where do you get this so you can email it to your iPhone?

I used WinSCP. Free program. Just put in the ip address of ubuntu to get into its file system and you can put the file on your desktop.
