    Plug-in not seeing new zones

    Hey Rob,

Just completed a major home remodel and added a wireless expander unit to the OmniPro II.

    Unfortunately, having some serious issues.

First, I selected the Expander #1-#4 options to mirror my setup; the wireless has four 16 zone expansion areas that look like a regular expansion enclosures to the Omni.

Zones all show fine in PC Access.... but only my hardwire zones show in the HAI Plug-in management page ZONE tab and no new devices were created.

So... like an IDIOT, I decided to try starting from scratch after stopping/restarting the plugin multiple times to help the plugin see the new zones. I deleted all my devices, deleted the HAI.ini file, and restarted.

After re-entering in my two keys and IP address, the plugin connected to the panel, but now not only does it *still* only show my wired zones under the ZONE tab, it does NOT create any zone devices including my old wired zones. It does, however, create the Root Device as well as the 10 "status" devices; ac, battery, bell, codes, etc.

In addition, even though I turned on Area One, there is no device to set the alarm states.

Any idea how to approach this?

    Thanks!

    Paul

I would clear everything out again, following these steps:

From the plugin page, remove any devices by clicking all the green ones. This will remove the corresponding device from HS.
    Shutdown the plugin.
Manually remove all HAI devices from the HS device management page. Make sure no devices are hidden and that you remove them all.
Startup the plugin and you should be all set.

The HAI.ini file doesnt really store any device-specific info. That is stored in PED in each HS device. So, when the plugin starts up, it looks at all the HS devices that have the HAI device and uses that to keep things in synch.

Let me know how that goes - it really just sounds like some orphaned devices were left over from before.

      Hey Rob,

I must be missing something. From the HAI plugin page, I don't see anywhere to select devices for removal.

I know I'm missing something obvious.....

Sorry, you're right - on Zones, they are only added if they are named.
For Areas, Outputs, Units, Flags, Thermostats, etc, there is a button to add/remove them

I restored from a backup I made yesterday before I missed with anything.

So currently, my wired zones all show as well as the HAI Area Mode device to arm/disarm.

What I did yesterday was select all the devices under HAI and then deleted them. I then restarted the plugin and they Zones and Area Mode never rebuilt.

I'll try removing all the HAI devices from the device page again and see what happens.

            Some progress....

I should point out that prior to adding the wireless receiver, I had added a Hardwire Expander (10A06) several years ago which expanded my available zones from 16 to 32. Previous to my current wireless project, I was only using the first 25 zones and had not used PC Access to rename the unused Zone 26-32 so they never showed up under the ZONES tab of the plugin page nor, obviously, as devices. Just never noticed it....

Ok.... so figured out that I have to use PC Access to name unused zones before the plugin sees them. I figured this out by renaming unused zones #26-32 to Empty [Zone #]. Now the 32 zones show up in the plugin tab and devices were created.

Unfortunately, even though I renamed the zones from 48 onward (the wireless expander starts at 48), they are not showing up.

I tried checking the Expansion Enclosure options under the Panels tab (For the wireless controller, the HAI manual has you set it to 4 on the actual panel), but no joy.

So... might this be an issue of the plugin not seeing wireless expansion zones? Not sure if this helps for troubleshooting, but in PC Access, when I go to the tab to rename zones, the primary first 16 zones have a [Z#] corresponding to the correct zone #, zones 16-32 have a [EX1-#] (where the # is a value of 1-16), zones 33-48 have [EX2-#] (again 1-16) and then where the wireless zones kick in, they change to [EE1-#] up to [EE4-#].

Not sure if that is relevant.... but there ya go!

Thanks for any help on this Rob.

Getting this to work is mission critical for the WAF as she's grown very used to Homeseer announcing doors and windows opening.

I am using Hardwire Expanders, an Expansion Enclosure and a HAI Wireless Receiver. I setup the Wireless Receiver to Emulate 3 Expansion Enclosures for 48 zones of the 64 it is capable of because they recommend doing this to decrease the polling times of unused zones. Since I do not have more than 48 zones, that is why the unit occupies 3 expansion enclosures worth of zones.

              Zone 1-16 OmniPro
              Zone 17-32 OmniPro Hardwire Expander
              Zone 33-48 OmniPro Hardwire Expander
Zone 49-64 Expansion Enclosure #1 (Real Expansion Enclosure)
Zone 65-112 Expansion Enclosure #2-4 (Wireless Receiver)

              In Dealer PC Access:

              Zone>Dealer Settings>Expansion Enclosures = 4
              Expansion>Module 1 = Hardwire Expander
              Expansion>Module 2 = Hardwire Expander

I suspect you are selecting an incorrect value on your wireless unit which establishes both the Expansion Enclosure # slot it is emulating as well as how many units it is emulating to receive from 16-64 zones.

In the Plug-In my settings are as follows:

Panel>Select Expansion Enclosures Model 17A00 (Expansion 1-4 are selected)

              Hope this is somehow helpful.

              -Travis

                Hey Travis,

Amazing timing. I was just going to post an update when I saw your post and I think I stumbled on the solution just prior to reading it. I think what you are saying jives with how my problem just resolved itself.

What seems to have solved it for me was telling the OP2 that I have TWO Hardwire Expanders instead of one.

Before I did that, my settings were one Hardwire Expander and then two Expansion Enclosures (for the two of four wireless zone blocks of 16 I plan to use). Problem, I *think*, was that since the Enclosure zones (and thus the wireless zones by extension) start at 49, the OP2 had zones 1-32 active (the original OP2 zones + Hardwire Expander), and then *nothing* for 33-48 as I only have one Hardwire Expander installed.

The zones then picked up at 49-80 for the two wireless zones I had selected.

So.... I'm wondering if something in Rob's plugin got thrown for a loop when it jumped from 32 to 49 without anything in between.

Whatever the issue, I've now got the wireless zones working!!!

As an aside, you using any repeaters in your install? I've got a fairly large house, and I'm getting marginal coverage near some of the edges.

                Cheers!

                -Paul

                  Hey Paul,

No repeaters here. My house is only 1810sft. That said I also have poor coverage in places. I installed another HAI wireless receiver based system at my moms house and she has coverage issues too and that was about 1500sft. When I spoke to HAI about that a few months back they actually recommended I use the GE wireless receiver instead and use those sensors. I was surprised they didn't recommend the one that did the HAI sensors but it has Dual antennas and a lot of people are good with using the Caddx GE stuff and don't have signal problems. For me, all of my wireless sensors are Aux zones so the occasional false doesn't set the alarm off anyway. If I had to do it again I would buy the GE receiver and sensors.

I use the Leviton GE compatible receiver (the 42A002). Is that the same as the HAI one you are using? The home is two stories and about 5300sq.ft. I hired an alarm company to mount all the wireless sensors and salvage what wired sensors they could use post-renovation. They supplied Resolution Products-brand GE-compatible ultra-slim sensors.

After a false start with installing the receiver too close to my wiring rack and the primary panel and thus degrading reception dramatically, I'm able to get coverage in most of the house. Still going to add a repeater as it is not rock solid on the far perimeter.

Thank God for Rob. Without his amazing plugin, I would have scrapped this system years ago and replaced with something like the DSC or other Homeseer-compatible system.

                    Thanks again for the help,

                    Paul

I mine is the HAI 45A00-1, their proprietary unit. You got the right one. There are no repeaters for the one I have. They just recommend adding an additional receiver to spread out coverage but even then I think it's a 1-to-1 relationship with the sensor so that's crappy too. Wish I had known back then to but the one you have.
