    Loosing connection to JR MediaCenter

    Hello,

I'm using this plugin to control JR Media Center. Lately I'm have issues with randomly loosing connection,(see below) anyone else having these issues. When it looses the connection it takes about an hour and the connection comes back.

Update on this post, had a major windows 10 update yesterday and now it has gone worse. The plugin runs fine for a bit and next I start getting warnings and I loose connection.

The continuing story. Still trying to get to the bottom of this. I have been reading other posts related to this. Most of the time the problem is the firewall or antivirus software. These 2 programs are running on the same computer so I don't think that is the issue.

For now as a workaround until I figure this out I wonder if their is a way to restart the plugin automatically to resolve the issue when it disconnects.

Anyone a suggestion how I can do this?

      Thanks
      Marcel

Kinda funny seems like I'm having a discussion with myself

Found a script from Jon00 that will allow me to restart the MC plugin on a regular basis so I have a workaround until I find the real issue.

Are you using a wireless connection? If so temporary RF interference could cause behavior like this.

Are you using fixed IP or dynamic IP addresses or both? If both be sure the dynamic addresses aren't overlapping with the fixed addresses resulting in 2 devices with the same IP address. That leads to chaos...

Have you made any recent network changes that coincide with the trouble?

            Hello Mountainman,

I have no made any changes to my network. This started happening after a major windows 10 upgrade. I did notice that this is caused by an amazon firestick so it might be wireless related but i didn't change anything. What confuses me that the log is mentioning the same device on 2 ip addresses one being 192.168.1.199. The other for the same device is 192.168.49.1. I'm not using this network address.

For some weird reason, any new thread created here, I do not get notifications despite it all being set as it should, so I missed this.
I'll have a look at your logs but firewalls or VPNS are notorious, irrespective whether it runs on the same PC or not. If you see IP addresses showing up that have no meaning, you are not using a VPN or a VM?

Did some additional testing last night. I limited my DHCP distribution list (2-199) anything above is the static area. I forced my firestick to a static address 192.168.1.200. I still got the error.

Error in MyUPnPDevice.RetrieveDeviceInfo for device = uuid:40c3851b-0dab-53bb-0000-000057120734 while retrieving document with URL = http://192.168.49.1:51744/upnp/dev/4...057120734/desc and error = Unable to connect to the remote server
                Feb-09 7:40:29 AM MC MyUPnPDevice.CheckForUpdates received a new location for an existing device = uuid:40c3851b-0dab-53bb-0000-000057120734 and existing Location = http://192.168.1.200:46496/upnp/dev/...057120734/desc, new Location = http://192.168.49.1:51744/upnp/dev/4...057120734/desc, new UDN = uuid:40c3851b-0dab-53bb-0000-000057120734.

I can see in my list that it changed the ip address tot he static one but still complaining about the 192.168.49.1. Next I did a search on the internet for firestick issues and found something interesting. Below is the message.

//Found out that the new Fire TV Stick has internally two WLAN interfaces,

the "official" wlan0, that is configureable and visible via the settings menu
netcfg reports and an additional undocumented interface with following settings: p2p-wlan0-0, UP, 192.168.49.1.//

I think this explains the issue I'm experiencing.

Good news is that this is not related to my original problem. Somewhere in the process I fixed the problem JRMC disconnecting because I didn't have a disconnect for a day now. Bad part is that I don't know what I changed to fix this. The only annoying part I have left is that I have errors scrolling in my log every couple minutes. I can fix it by turning off the logging but would be nice if I can fix this somehow. For example by ignoring the firestick.

Celebrated too early just had another disconnect. The bad part is that none of the devices indicate that their is a disconnect so I cannot trigger the event that restarts the plugin automatically. Have to go back to restarting the plugin every 2 hours.

The 192.168.49.1 interface is being used for WiFi Direct. This is a direct peer-to-peer wifi connection to another devices that does not go through an access point. I'm guessing this is being used to communicate with the remote control. Does this product come with a remote? I'm not familiar. If you configure it to not use WiFi Direct to communicate with the remote (and use IR instead), then the 192.168.49.1 interface will hopefully be turned off. Of course that means you would need line-of-sight to use IR.

If there is no 192.168.49.1 device on the air, there should be no possibility of the plug-in trying to communicate with it for some reason and the whole problem may go away.

Can we take a step back. Where exactly is the JR Mediacenter SW running? I thought it was on the same PC or is it running on the FireStick?
Could you post your device page so I can see which type of devices are discovered by the PI and please indicate which device it is that is causing you heartburn.

                      Thanks,

Have you tried to let it run with your firewall disabled? If you look at the settings in your firewall, do you see incoming and outgoing allowances for the PI (note not HS3 but the PI!!!!).

                        Thanks,

I apologize for not answering I was not subscribed to the thread so didn't realize I had answers. So JR River Media center has 5 zones and is running on my server the same computer that runs HS3 pro. The firesticks are in 2 different rooms in my house connected to TV's (2 in total). I'm not sure if the firesticks are causing this problem so i think I have to start with disconnecting the firesticks and see if I still have the problem. Just FYI the error message from the firestick happens every 15 minutes. Next I will run without firewall.
This might take a while because sometimes it takes a day before the disconnect happens.

Side question is there a way to disable the certain devices that I don't want to discover?

                          Thanks

Did you try disabling WiFi Direct on the Firesticks? I realize this may not be the desired permanent solution, but it would help troubleshoot.
