Failed to get InterfaceStatus from MediaController

Hopefully I'm posting this in the right sub-forum, please forgive me if not. I'm new to HomeSeer and am still learning the software, but so far, I really have enjoyed hooking up all my components.

Last night, I purchased a new Samsung SmartTV. Connected it to my home (wired) network and enabled the MediaController plugin in HomeSeer. The plugin finds the TV and lists it. However, after I activate it, the system is VERY sluggish when I try to get back to the plugin manager page, and will not allow me to get back in to the MediaController config page. I have to disable the plugin for the system to get back to normal. While it's enabled, the attached image is the error message I get.

I searched the forums and was not able to find anyone else referencing this. Any assistance with this is greatly appreciated.

If you enable the PI again, does it exhibit the same sluggish behavior? What platform are you running this on (Windows ,Linux, kind of processor, speed, memory ...) Do you have multiple Ethernet interfaces on this PC? Are you using any VM type of configuration? Anything special about your setup?

One thing to try is to enable the debug flag, assuming you can open the config page of the PI. Leave the UPNP debug level to errors only and don't put the logging to disk on. With debug flag on, restart PI or HS and check log file for any errors or perhaps repeated behavior.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, when I enable the PI again, the same sluggish response occurs. I am running this on the Raspberry PI version of HomeSeer. However, I downloaded the Windows version and tested it there with the same results. There is only 1 NIC in the Raspberry PI (hardwired).

One thing to note, this only happens when I enable the "Remote" Service Type, not the Player or Multiscreen services (see picture attached).

I enabled the log file parameters per your request, and the results are listed below:

One thing to note, this only happens when I enable the "Remote" Service Type, not the Player or Multiscreen services (see picture attached).

I enabled the log file parameters per your request, and the results are listed below:
Could you explain: "you downloaded the Windows version" ... Are we talking about HS or about the PI? If the latter there is only one version of the PI, it both runs Windows and Linux. If it is HS, did you try it on a PC instead of the RPi? I also see that you turned the debug on for the UPNP, turn that off.

If your Samsung is new, the remote control won't work. I see that the TV refuses to accept to open a TCP port, so either the TV doesn't support it (most likely) or you need to set the allowance.

The log doesn't really show anything except you deleting something and adding something and the TV refusing to open the remote control port.

I downloaded and installed a demo copy of HomeSeer on Windows.

The Samsung TV is brand new. Are new ones not capable of doing Remote via DLNA?

I believe it was changed again as of models E. Suspect it was dropped in favor of apps on TV itself communicating with apps on phones directly.

Where would I find out if my TV model is capable of remote control via DLNA? I have the Samsung UN55J6203. I look on the Samsung website, but am not quite sure what I'm looking for. Since the TV is broadcasting that it's "remote" capable, it seems like it would have the capability.

I sure hope it is, having it controlled by HomeSeer is one of the main reasons I purchased it.

When I enable and activate the TV Remote using the plugin, it is pulling some information from the TV as it populates various buttons/commands available on the TV (see picture).

The buttons are standard and hardcoded in the PI, nothing to do with pulling info from the TV.

Check your settings on the TV. Go to menu and hunt for "remote control". Make sure it is on. ALSO when you activate the service, make sure you are in front of the TV (which obviously is turned on), you may see a pop up appearing on your TV so click "ALLOW" to let the remote control take place.

I trust you read enough on this board before you bought the TV. You would have read somewhere that this remote control has nothing to do with DLNA, it uses DLNA mechanisms to make it discover-able (HS actually does the same in a bad way). The DLNA functions are under a player device. The remote control is an extra I added and worked for my C series TV. The remote at best can turn off your TV, very likely it cannot turn your TV on.

One other thing to do is to check the UPNP info. If you go to the config page at the bottom their is a button view devices. Click on it. Post the page you get. Click on hyperlinks as you go and post the pages.

Also, no pop-up is showing up. Even when I install the Samsung SmartView app on my iPhone, it says "a pin is displayed on your TV, enter it...". That is not happening either. I'm on a Samsung online support chat at the moment.

Either this Smart TV is smarter than me, or it is not capable of what it has advertised...
