    Need Help!

    I'm not sure why this is happening but when I run AB8SS I get this error:
    -----AB8SSGetStatus()...sent * but received *8400007'
    but everything seems to switch just fine.

    When I run IrpSpeak it tells me its not the right device, something like not a WAC Device and the plug-in terminates. I want to run IrpSpeak due to the features it has but it will not load. The COM port is correct and like I stated above AB8SS see's it but returns an error upon initialization.

    I'm phasing out WAF AB8SS and use the SAME COM. I disabled SpeakEasy and WAF before installing your plug-ins. Thanks in advance for your help!

    Make sure you are not using any other AB8SS plug-ins, I noticed you referenced an AB8SS. Also what version of lrpSpeak are you using?

    Also I am not too concerned about the missing "*" as this happens quite frequently... The echo is more of a troubleshooting tool than anything. The communication protocol is very limited and has it's problems, especially if using longer serial cable runs or Edgeport type devices, which can vary the timing of any responses echoed back.

      I'm not using any other AB8SS plugin. I disabled and removed them.
      I used your AB8SS as a test after I could not get IRPSpeak to work. The weird thing is your AB8SS plug-in controls the AB8SS but the IrpSpeak does not. I do disable the AB8SS Plugin when testing the IrpSpeak. IrpSpeak give me the following message:

        What version of plugin?

        How is HS PC connected to AB8SS?

          The connection is via the serial port. COM 6 to be exact. It is a PCI card that is made by NETMOS and has been and is driving several other COM connections to HS. I even tried a different port to see if there was a difference. I have been running this card for over 3 years with WAF AB8SS without any problems that I know of. I'm trying to run the plug-in from the updater I believe it is version 2.2.0.11. I hope this helps. Thanks for you help.

            Thanks for the info...I will try and figure out what is going on.

            It's really a puzzle, as I use this setup here, and many others as well, so it may take some detective work to find out why your's is not working correctly.

            I may need to ask more questions later about your particular environment, ie. HS version, other plug-ins, etc...

            Not that your are doing anything wrong, just need to try and understand, what interactions may be taking place.

              I think I may have found the problem, after going through your trace. Let me work on a fix and I will get back to you later today. I can't believe this problem has not come up before, but I think it was introduced in the 2.2.0.11 which is pretty new.

                No problem. I 'm a programmer myself and have an understanding of the tracing and debugging process. Ask away and if you need an aplha or beta tester let me know. I'm now tring to develop a plug-in myself and have both a production and a testing environment for HS on two different machines. Thanks for your help. Just PM me if you need my email to do some private testing.

                  Thx Sean,

                  Attached is a fixed version...just unzip and place the hspi_lrpSpeak.dll in your HS directory.

                  Please let me know how it works out.

                    That seemed to work. I do get:
                    2/5/2008 6:36:54 PM lrpSpeak Error AB8SSGetStatus()...sent * but received *8400007'

                    2/5/2008 6:36:54 PM lrpSpeak Error InitIO()->InitializeAB8SS()...failed. Shutting down plugin
                    but the plug-in allows me to switch the speakers on and off. I'm not sure if I'm using the right syntax but when I use:

                    [Loc All] This is a test.

                    in a speak event it does not do anything. I have to use:

                    &hs.plugin("lrpSpeak").AllSpkrOn()

                    first and then it just speaks the [Loc All] w/ message.

                      You are using , hs.Speak "[Loc All] This is a test." , in a script and it fails, is that correct?

                      or as action in an event, it would look like , [Loc All] This is a Test.

                          I will investigate this tonight, it appears that the Initialization failed to get AB8SS status, so it did not register the speakproxy with HS, but still allows script switching of the ports..Hmmmm.

                              Thx.

                              I am trying to convert some of the (wait for responses from the AB8SS routines) to a more interrupt driven scheme, to see if this will help.

                              One of the problems I think is that with some devices like I have (Edgeport8) connected the HS PC thru a USB extender can add some delay in comm, which means that I have to put longer waits in the code, before it gives up on a response, while other setups do not suffer the delays.

                              So maybe, if I can figure out how to send a command, and let the serial port DataReceived event handler notify me when a response is waiting in the buffer, possibly this might work better in more diverse environments, I am not sure.

                              I do not have a lot of confidence in the protocol used in the AB8SS, which seems to respond differently or not as reliably as I would hope. Which is a challenge when trying to verify if a command was excepted or not.

                              Anyway, what seems to work reliably for some, seems to not work for others, so I am attempting to re-architec the response mechanism in the plugin to the event driven model described above. Please be patient, as this may take me a week or two experimenting with the new code.
