I have the cam because as you I didn't care to have video. I am using the st2 keypads and love the unit. Simple and sounds good. I just did monoprice speakers too. It it used 3 years ago and it's still just fine.

Here put the priority of sound and sound distribution higher than automation many many years ago.

Also still today have kept some of my old audio equipment from the 1980's and 1970's.

That said originally went to the Russound CAA44's then to the Russound CAA66's with Russound KPL keypads.

Over the years purchased a mini serial splitter for the control and went to using both Homeseer 2 and my Omni Pro2 panel to control the audio via Omnitouch screens

I have to date (now over 10 years) never had an issue with my old and new Russound amplifiers.

BTW unrelated to OP I have kept the old Marantz SD9000 / Nakamichi Dragon cassette decks even though I never play any cassettes these days.

Yep. Works great. Add blspeech as well and you have an awesome system to distribute and control audio and the speech integrates nicely to do announcements.

I use the squeezebox plugin and a raspberry Pi to connect as a source for squeezebox. Works really well. I put 2 USB DACs on the Pi so I could output two sources, to have the ability to play two different things st the same time. It's just my wife and I so that's all I needed. I also use a source tied back to my HS server strictly for announcements.

The Russound plugin allows you to assign buttons to scripts or events. I do that to control the squeezebox player and I have scripts to update the LCD display on the keypad to show the name of the song. I have android panels running HSTouch to do the heavy lifting on the control.

One other thing, you don't need to install the keypads to use the zones. They are nice to haves and I would for sure put them in if the cat 5 is already run for them, but they aren't needed if you plan to do your control thru HS. I have the keypads in just for quick volume adjustments and to turn the zone on/off if near one, but they do hardly get touched and wouldn't be missed if not there.

                                Quick question
With the squeezebox plugin how does the sound get to the russkund system?
                                Via serial port right?
Is there merit to the EU bridge or even Perkins innovation of fde1 that seems to upgrade the russound RNet to IP based communication ???
Then you can add one of the russound streaming music devices?
