Question on Status Behavior of GD00Z Garage Door Controller

My GD00Z works well for opening an closing the garage door with HS3. I want to have an event that turns on the garage light when the status of the garage door changes to "Opening".
But, I noticed that the "Opening" and "Closing" status are only sent when the door is opened or closed via HS3. When I use my car Homelink button or my Garage Door opener remote control to open or close the garage door - the only status returned by the HS3 device are "Open" or "Closed".

Is this expected behavior? Why would the GD00Z and it's tilt sensor not send back an "Opening" or "Closing" when the door is triggered independently from HS3?

    Any solutions? Ideas? Thanks.

    My HS3 profile is below:

Do you have a choice like in the pic for the garage door opening?

Yes, this is the way it works. The tilt sensor is binary, it can only sense opened or closed, not the fact that its moving. Only when the control command came from the GD00Z does it "know" that motion is in progress. (In this case, if the tilt sensor doesn't change as expected, it will throw an error IIRC).
For this reason, I only used Opened and Closed states for triggers. Like you, I wanted it to trigger when "opening". However it works fine the way it is.

Yes, I do. See below. But that's not the issue. The garage door device does not change to "Opening" when opened with the Car garage opener button, it only shows "Open" when the door is completely open. When opened with HS3, the device shows "Opening" and "Open".
I want to trigger the event when the status changes to "Opening". Make sense?

zwolfpack...thanks for the explanation. Would it make a difference if the tilt sensor was a stand alone device and not associated with the GD00Z - such as the Ecolink Tilt Sensor https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

          Would this show "opening" status?

I see what you are talking about. I watched the individual devices in the list for any change in their status when I used the manual and remote control to open the garage door and I didn't see any change until it got the signal from the tilt sensor which was either open or closed. So I am not sure you can do what you are wanting to do. Maybe someone else does.

No, that one appears to be binary as well.

What kind of garage door do you have? I have a rollup type, and the sensor is mounted near the top (looking at when closed). So when it starts opening, the sensor orientation changes almost right away, and the lights come on before the door is finished opening. Of course the opposite for closing, its all the way closed before that registers. But I don't care about that delay ;-)

I think I can live with the "Open" status for now. Thanks for the suggestions

I'm trying to put out a simple announcement telling the house that a particular garage door has been left open for greater than 30 minutes, that part works fine I wanted to do a subsequent 30 minute later another announcement indicating that the garage door is still open. I ended up using OR IF triggers for 1 hour later, 1 hour, 30 minutes but after the third condition there will be further announcements and I wanted the event to continue until the door finally indicates closed. I attached a copy of what I cobbled together is there a better way to have a 30 minute reoccurring announcement? And before you say how about simply commanding the door closed... that wasn't the today's exercise. Mike

I use a timer for this.

Timer starts when door changes to open.
                    Timer stops when door closed.
If timer reaches 10 minutes, play announcement and restart timer.

I'm going to hazard a guess that you haven't tested your event past the one hour mark. At that point, the event will fire non-stop!

Short answer to the last part of your response is no, but it might get some real attention if it's irritating.. I will try using your recommendation will keep you posted. Thanxs for you suggestion.

@zwolfpack thanxs for the link, it was exactly what I was looking for. I do not have other door that needed to be accounted for. Again thanxs I would have expected this to be in the "How to" section. You also educated me in using PushOver to send emails, thanxs.

Question I had used the forum search on "garage" and did not come across you "old thread" what am I missing something?
