    Question about KeypadLinc

I just installed and linked a "KeypadLinc" (Model 2486DWH8, 8 button) and it went as expected except there seems to be only 6 buttons available (A - D plus On and Off load). It looks like the configuration for the 6 button keypad.

Does anyone have any idea as to why this configuration loaded and not the 8 button configuration? I'm using the latest plug-in, 1.3.0.0.

can you post the section from your insteon.ini that relates to this new device. I would like to see the settings.

Yes, it helps. the EEValues key should not be blank.

did you get any errors in the hs log when you registered the device?

turn on debugging and then Click the "Re-Read Device Links and Settings" btn from the specific Edit Insteon Device page within the plugin. This should fix the problem.

if you get any errors in the hs log, please post

Can someone tell me how to turn on debugging so I can do what's suggested in the last post.

              I hate to be a pest about this but . . .

I'm new to HomeSeer so what may seem obvious to others is not as obvious to me.

Regarding the earlier post to turn on debugging and the follow-on post saying it's on the main configuration page of the plug-in, I see a choice in the log level and selected and saved at the "Debug Log Entries" level but I don't see a button to "Re-Read Device Links and Settings". I see "Update Insteon Address Data Base", "Hardware Reset and Reprogram Interface" and "Program Replacement / Swapped Interface".

Is it there and I'm just missing it, under another name or on another page?

              Some insight please.

                Tom,
welcome to homeseer. I'm the developer/user supporting the insteon plugin your using. sorry for the short hand instructions. i hope the following will help you fix the problem.

--Select Manage Devices from the insteon plugin Config Page
--Then select the Front Hall kepadlinc device from the Currently Registered Insteon Devices (either check the box and click Edit Selected Device or just click the device name which is a link)
--From the Edit Insteon Page, scroll down and click the "Re-Read Device Links and Settings" btn. this will take a few minutes with a kpl (lots of settings and links)

now check the insteon.ini again. the EEValues key should have several comma separated entries in it.

please post this section again and any errors in the hs log if you do not get the results you expect

                    New Information

I decided to see how Smarthomes HouseLinc2 software treated this keypad and it looks like it makes it a 6 button device as well (see the HouseLinc screen shot below). I'm going to contact Insteon and see what they have to say.

It's unlikely a Homeseer problem; unless you see something in the logs that makes you think differently.

the interesting thing is the EEValues look right. And the fptype=2 suggests an 8 btn setup.

i would do a manual convert to a 6 btn setup and then another back to 8 btn and see if that helps. the kpl manual will show you the steps

                        Who Knew?

I contacted SmartHome about the KeypadLinc and they were not at all surprised. They simply said reconfigure it to an 8 key pad. That's nice but who knew that was an option. You were the first to mention it and it's not mentioned in their Quick-Start guide. You have to go to the on-line manual to even get an idea it's an option.

                        OK, enough of my rant.

I still had HouseLinc open so I reconfigured it there, then brought up HS2 and all 8 buttons were there.

Sorry to get you so involved in THEIR problem but thanks for the help.

no problem, we're all here help.

I have already started adding a config option to the plugin so one to change between 6 and 8 btn mode to make these little problems easier to deal with.

In general, all KPLs can change back and forth (6 vs 8) and the keypad faceplate can be changed if you need to change the config later.
