    Help with a new install

So I purchased the plugin last weekend hoping to get back X10 support and it seemed to go okay. I installed it, added an X10 device and re-added my Insteon devices. Closed HS thinking it was all okay. Fast forward to yesterday and the .204 update came out. I installed it and then everything fell apart.

I seem to have intermittent connection to my 2413U. It only works about 10% of the time. Usually I get this message:

"WARNING: Please check the Interface and enter the Interface Port information on the Config page and restart HS."

    I have tried:

    - Installing .205 and reinstalled .199 with no affect
    - Uninstalled and re-installing the plugin (version 3.0.5.20) from within Homeseer with no affect
    - Uninstalling all plugins except Netcam and this Insteon plugin with no affect

    Any other ideas?

Startup log (attached) indicates it can't communicate with COM3 however I've had no problems using the HS Insteon plugin for several months with HS3 on COM3. And it works sometimes (by works I mean there's no error in the plugin and it successfully receives X10 signals).

Thanks for the quick reply. I attempted to include it in the last post but didn't know I needed to rename it to txt. Attached here.

can you verify com3 is the correct port in windows device manager?

        then reboot, and reverify

then start hs3, enable detailed logging in plugin, and restart hs3

post startup log again (you can just copy and post the text to the posting; no need to post a log file)

Just remembered that I followed your instructions and updated the FTDI driver before installing your software. I just tried rolling it back which didn't change anything. So I reinstalled the latest version again.

the plm isn't responding to a basic cmd.

can you do a factory reset on the plm? check the manual for the procedure

I've had similar issues when upgrading HS3 to a new version. Since then I always try to put the new software on a different system for testing.

The reset seemed to work. Thanks Mark!

I've never had to do this before so if anyone knows what might trigger the requirement for a reset let me know. I'll search the forums to see what others have experienced. A couple recent post by Mark suggest a reset to fix things so it may be a common problem with this plugin and/or Homeseer?

Given jogentry's comment, I'm wondering if I can set up a sandbox on my windows machine to test new versions, instead of running a separate box. Not sure if anyone has tried this.

you might be able to run a sandbox using a vm. not sure if you will be able to connect to your serial or usb plm from the host to the vm.

the PLMs periodically lose their mind, and need a reset and reprogram which can be performed via the plugin.

I'm sure this has been discussed in one of the general hs3 forums.
