Instructions for making your own data cable

I just did this tonight and it worked perfectly.

HERE are the instructions on how to wire up your own data cable.
The above link worked for me but not others (I am using a PCI serial port - I wonder if it does not work if you are using usb to serial)
Ths first link should work. You must make sure you put the rj12 end to end and the colors match in the picture. I have done 2 like the first link above and they work.

If that one does not work, then try HERE

    NOTE
I suggest not inserting the pin into the db9 connector until you know everything is working

    Hi Bob,

There's a link mid-way on the page that says "ALPHA/BetaBrite Users - If you have an Alpha or a BetaBrite sign, you cannot use this adapter! Instead, see the Alpha sign cable adapter construction instructions. Did you make the one on that main page or the linked page?

    Thanks

You can ignore that. It worked fine for me. Only 3 wires are hooked to the DB9 (pin 2,3, and 5)
      Cheers,
      Bob

          Hi Bob,

The instructions on the first page (using the yellow, green and red wires) did not work for me. I had to use the instructions on the linked page (using the blue, green and red wires) to make it work (also shown here: http://www.max-headroom.com/home-the...e-theater.html) Not sure why mine works differently than yours.

          Cheers

Mine is a PCI serial port

              Hi Bob,

              It's a regular serial port.

              Cheers

Your message to the future arrived four years later and saved me trouble - thank you. Took the description from the dead Ebay sale & used to get one from Amazon...
