UN-registered links refers to links in a device that point to another device that is no longer in your house or that your registered in your PLC/PLM. If memory servers, there was a button to remove the unregistered link.

I've only done this once and i kind of stumbled on it, so if someone has a better way of explaining this please feel free to correct me.

just edit the device in question and delete the links that reference 'unregistered device' from the 'edit links' page.

Communication issues after PLC to PLM swap

            Hello,

I just switched from the PLC to the 2413 serial PLM. I used the swap/replace function. It found and downloaded the links for some of the devices but it couldn't communicate with many of my devices and the swap/replace function could not complete.

I had good communication before with my PLC. I use 2 SignaLincs. Is the PLM compatible with SignaLincs?

What else could be going on?

Also, I noticed that, with communication failure, the plugin seems to hang on trying to communicate with that one device until the retry count is reached and no further Insteon commands can be sent during this time. Is this expected behavior or is this a result of the replace/swap function not being able to finish? If the former, is there any way to allow the plugin to have a certain number of 'threads' so that if there were communication issues it would still go ahead and send out other queued commands while continuing to try the failed device until the retry count is exceeded? I'd really like to not have it wait 10 seconds for the next command to go out.

Please help me get my communication back!

            Thank you,
            Mike

            Update:

It appears as if devices on the other side of the SignaLincs can not send anything to the PLM. They can receive from the PLM, and then the plugin hangs on waiting for the response from these particular devices, and it never receives it. All devices on the same phase as the PLM work flawlessly via HomeSeers status page. The one exeption is a motion sensor.

I also have a motion sensor plus LampLinc on the same phase as my PLM yet the motion sensor complains about communication problems via it's 6 or so flashes of the LED. Is this because the LampLinc has not had it's links reprogrammed yet due to the failure of the replace/swap function?

            Thx.

I had a dual-band plugin dimmer on the same phase as the PLM so I tried moving it to the other phase but still only a room away from the PLM. This didn't change anything. The PLM is till not receiving anything from devices on the other phase of the house. How do I fix this? Please help.

Yes I can. When the dual-band dimmer is on the other phase, repeated on/off commands are sent and received right away by the dual-band itself, as with the other devices on the same phase as the PLM. Any device on the other phase will act upon a command right away but it fails to communicate back to the PLM. Any further commands, even to devices on the same phase as the PLM, fail to go through until the plugin gives up on waiting for the response. I have 5 retries set to 2 seconds per try, so 10 seconds.

So the communication paths are there. It's just that the devices can't communicate back to the PLM for some reason or another. I just don't understand it.

FYI, I moved my PLM to the 'other' phase, kept the dual-band in original location, now oposite phase of the PLM, and could communicate with all devices just fine. After deleting the motion sensor and door/window sensor from homeseer, the swap/replace function was able to complete. The plugin was unable to retrieve link settings from the sensors and therefore was the last things preventing the function from completing. After it completed, I moved the PLM back to original location, now same phase as dual-band plugin but with SignaLincs bridging phases, and the devices on opposite phase still cannot communicate back to the PLM. It's one way communication only.

                  Any ideas?

please try the "hardware reset and reprogram..." btn on the insteon config page. this will clear and reprogram the plm. it won't affect the other devices.

Thank you for your reply Mark. I tried that. Process completed w/ no problems but there was no change. Going to try to turn on debugging or verbose logs and see what's there.

                      Edit

Is Detailed more detailed than Debug? I set it to detailed and here's what I got.

Dining Fan Light can receive the commands from the PLM but can't communicate back to the PLM. When I tried this, I was using the HomeSeer Status' page On/Off button. I pressed the On button followed by the Off button about a second later. The light turned off right away but it took a long time for it to turn back on again.

                        More information...

In this test I turned a device on the opposite phase of the PLM on and off via the switch itself and not HomeSeer. At first, the press of the switch failed to update the HomeSeer status. After a couple tries, it begain updating the HomeSeer status. But even after it started updating the status, the plugin still failed to read the device links and settings as well as receive confirmation from the device that the command from the PLM was received. As you can see, the communication is getting from the device to HomeSeer which makes it even more confusing to me what is goin on here. Perhaps someone else can make sense of this.

13.F9.B4 = motion sensor that has been deleted from HomeSeer
                        0A.F7.17 = the device I'm turning On/Off

Is there any way to reset the device to factory defaults and then have HomeSeer reprogram it without loosing any links in the device or HomeSeer programming?

Here's another log sample. Previous log samples were with PLM on Phase A and dual-band dimmer on Phase B. This sample has PLM and dual-band dimmer on Phase A and SignaLincs bridging the phases. Pretty much the same thing occurs either way. I'm beginning to think something may have gotten messed up in the devices or plugin during the failed swap/replace.
