Plugin Actions (Cell Colours)

If I create an action for a plugin then at the minute it ends up with a blank cell background, how can I change it to a particular colour?

I have a feeling that these are coming from the stylesheet but at the point in the plugin code (the way I interpret it anyway) the table HTML code has already been processed so I can't add any styles or background code. I have control over the text in the box but any way to change the background is escaping me, anyone got any ideas or knowledge?

I've searched through the SDK and can't find anything obvious.
