Looks like you have the com port set to "com1"

Change it to "1" then restart HS3

the russound is connected via the on board serial port on the computer com1

I changed the port to 1
            restarted HS3
            no change

I changed it form homeseer port back to serial
            no change.

boy do I feel stupid, i used to think I could work my around a computer before.

maybe I shoudl try to find the russound power programer software and see if I can connect that way? I dont see anywhere to download it for free?

If i disconnect the serial cable from the russound, the light does go out.

Im going to see if I can connect or control one of my insteon devices using the USB insteon PLM.

Are you sure you are using the correct port number?
How many com ports do u have on the computer?
                Cheers,

The o my serial port is com1
There are 2 other ports on USB

I'm getting g the russound power software and will go back to basics
                  Cord
                  Com settings etc

I have an old laptop with a serial port running XP that I used to tune my buick GN

Need to make sure everything works outside of HS first

I think the russound software won't run in Windows 7

So something definitely is wrong with the serial communication in the russound unit.

I have 3 different straight 9pin RS232 cables and found a copy of the russound power tool. I even bought a new calbe from radio shack.

I have an old laptop that has Xp on it and a serial port that works. I know this because I used it to program some car stuff maybe 4 or 5 years ago.

I loaded the russound power tool on the XP laptop and tried the default com1 setting which is 9600 as well as 19200 baud.

cant connect to the russound CAM 6.6 at all!

This is weird because everything else on the russound seems to work OK, the 232 connection should be the most reliable?

So at this point I cant blame the HS plugin.

                    I give up for now..

Does the CAM have a rs232 port on the front as well
Both of my CAV66's have one on the back and the front
                      Cheers,

The CAM series only has the RS232 port in the back.

There are DIP switch settings to change if you are trying to do a firmware update. Just to be safe, I have tried all three and still nothing.

                        This should be soooo easy.

The Russound unit seems to work OK on all channels, strange that only the serial port is bad.

                          update....

The Russound unit I got off ebay has a blown RS232 port.

I bought another one and can connect to it using the power programmer software.

Will text connecting to my HS sever this afternoon.

                            thanks

Well, I figured out my problem.

The seerial port on the first 2 Russound units I bought were bad. They played Ok just had blown serial ports.

                            Wierd.

I now have one that works with a built in FM tuner.

I have finally been able to get a basic connection and turn a zone on and off using imperihome.

                            THANKS BLADE for your patience.

Now I can stat getting to the good stuff.

Which media plug in is best to use to stream MPS's to the russound?
So many to choose from, so little time..
