Can anyone suggest a Z-Wave Thermostat which will be suitable for use in Both HS2 and HS3? (Excluding the CT-30 which I've tried and had problems).

Z-Wave Thermostat ???

I've used the trane models with both hs2/hs3 and they are rock solid and problem free. I believe they are made by RCS. I'm gonna get three more for my other place. Also there was a recent thread where folks threw in their experience with various thermostats. Search the forum for"best thermostat". I would do it for you but I'm on a mobile device right now.

Yeah... I'm leaning to the Trane for m HS3 migration.
I'm just pondering if I bite now at the sale price. But that darn U.S/Can exchange rate will eat up even more than any discount.... then shipping...

So is there just a tz16 adaper we can add to our existing txb16 or is this a whole new unit?

Not sure about the HS2 support for it, but I've used the CT100 on HS3 with great results. Nothing like the CT-30 Z-Wave, which I purchased and threw in the trash a few months later.HS Pro 3.0 | Linux Ubuntu 16.04 x64 virtualized under Proxmox (KVM)

For the time being, I can do a lot of testing without actually connecting the thermostat to the furnace; something I'd rather not do until spring when I don't actually need the furnace to work.
Right now, I haven't decided which eventual route I'll be taking.Real courage is not securing your Wi-Fi network.

The interface runs about $100 US. There are complete ZWave thermostats going for about that amount as well, so the conversion from TXB16 to TZ16 may not actually make sense anyway.
My problem is I only have four conductors running from the control board to the wall unit. The cable may run around a corner inside the wall upstairs (my renovation bad) and may be impossible to pull out. This is why I was looking at the TZ.Real courage is not securing your Wi-Fi network.

I remember now why I shelved the CT30. It needs to be polled to get its status. Polling it often fails.
The TZ16 makes sense only because I can use the existing wiring to the wall unit. That cable happens to be 22AWG which probably isn't going to be suitable for any all in one thermostat with the relays in the unit.
Going to see if I can pull it through the walls. If I can, I'll go with something else.
So, I'm down to the TZ16 (last choice), a Trane (model TBD), the CT100, or the Honeywell ZWSTAT.
The ZWSTAT is available from Aartech (Canadian company) for $182 Cdn. That price will likely be comparable to anything I could import from the US given the state of our dollar currently.
First step though is to see about pulling a new cable.Real courage is not securing your Wi-Fi network.

Threw caution out and bought a roll of thermostat wire (18/5). Decided to see how much work pulling it though was going to be, then went ahead and did it. Took three hours, but got it. Then looked at the existing installation. I want to slap whoever installed the furnace; wire nuts everywhere. Figured out where all the needed connections are and wired up the CT30 for now, complete with C wire; another two hours. No easy task as the original install was two wire and no diagram to help.
I'll decide which new TStat to go with after the holiday.
The TXB16 will go to the garage... Anyone need a backup? I have two spares.Real courage is not securing your Wi-Fi network.

For what its worth, I recently installed a CT100 with HS3 and installation and configuration (including inclusion) went very smoothly.
There are a couple of minor hiccups: 1) the fan state (not mode) does not get reported, however I have mode on auto so it is not an issue and 2) the device can allegedly report humidity levels, however I am not able to get that feature to work.
That said, it is all in all a very good device at the sub $100 price point.

So far this time, the CT30 is behaving. I haven't installed batteries; I'm wondering right now if that wasn't the cause of any trouble I'd had previously with it. At any rate, I won't be keeping it long term.Real courage is not securing your Wi-Fi network.
