    Insteon Address

Working through my first installs with the plugin. I have read most of the threads in this foruma nd appreciate the community approach. Does anyone have any information on timelines for overcoming some of the listed issues, like the plugin not recognizing local switch actions, etc? I would be interested in seeing what is coming up when.

The plug-in is farther along than the SDM will allow, which means that the timeline will be following the SDM closely.

I would say that local control recognition will follow within a day or so of the next major SDM release (about 2 weeks according to SH).

Link/Scene programming should follow a week or two later, assuming the SDM is stable enough to allow for programming the remote units without turning them into bricks.

Excellent news. Always nice to hear short timelines are possible. I look forward to seeing what comes out!

I should clarify that a bit... Insteon does not have local control reporting at all. This is a future firmware update to the modules according to SmartHome.

Recognizing that another switch or controller changed a light will be there in the next major release.

Getting something that would be just like "local control reports" to work involves some reprogramming of the remote switches, as well as downloading internal memory locations which can change on a device by device basis. It is going to be some amount of work.

This should be in the major-release-after-next, assuming that it actually works which as far as I know right now is only conjecture.

Oman...the module FW updates that you are talking about regarding local control changes, do they require new modules or can the SDM upgrade the FW via the SignalLinc?

In setting up the PLU, does each device that you wish to use have to be manually linked to the PLU? I got a keylinkpad working on its main load, but had linked that to the smart home software prior to playing with Home Seer. I tried to add three lamp linc devices and got a can not communicate.

            Thoughts anyone?

The plug-in handles adding the proper records to the PLC. You don't have to tap-link anything.

Is the LED blinking on the PLC? If so use the downlad core option.

If not then use the generate report file option in the config screen *after* you try to add the device. That will show what is going wrong.

Please use the generate report and post it when reporting problems. Pretty Pretty please?

That error will occur if you disable and re-enable the X10 part of the plug-in. This is the only plug-in that supports both IO and X10 as an option and there is something whacky in HomeSeer when enable and disable them separately in a session. If this is the problem then restarting HomeSeer will fix it. If not then the error report will tell me what is up.

                    Jon

It is a new way to do things but it should speed up finding problems by a factor of about 10. I thought I would throw an extra "pretty" in there just in case you were in an especially bad mood :>

                            #14
In most cases the whole log would help since it has initialization information in it :> but here I can clearly see that the device did not respond in any way to the ping request, it did not send an ACK (that it got the message) and it did not send the requested ping response. This pretty much indicates that the device can not be reached. I do see that 00.48.D4 worked just fine, so everything with the plug-in and SDM seem to be working.

Now I have had instances where I could control a device but it would never respond. Essentially there was just enough signal one way to work but not the other.

As well your log shows a bug that I had to struggle today to fix, in that some ACK messages can look like other types of messages because the ack message follows a competely different message format that can be virtually indestinguishable from a regular message given the right data.

These devices are literally next to each other. I figure if I try to tap link 0145d7 it will work....

As I tried to do this I realized the D is a 0. Worked like it should, added with no tap link.

                              Trying to add a second.

Tested it and yep.... It works clean.

Jon, sorry for wasting your time with my typo.

The X10 problem in this thread..... Has been verified to ensure that I am not mistyping addresses!
