It was an attempt to get Google voice integration working again. Google changed it and broke the API I was using. So far I have not found a workaround yet
You really do not need to upgrade to it

Is the only thing still working calendars and at that point only 1 google account?

I always wanted this to do announcements of up coming appointments, but I could only ever get it to use 1 google account at a time
