    Settings Mysteriously Changed / Disappeared

Last month I added email coordinates to my settings file, tested it and everything worked perfectly.

    Still running 3.0.0.96.

I realized earlier today that I hadn't received any emails from my HS3 so I went back to check the email settings and they were ALL gone!

A few other settings had also changed on the main and network pages.

I didn't do any work on the system since then and when I check a backup, sure enough my email and other settings were in the backup but NOT in the current settings file.

Any ideas why this might have occured?
    Thanks!
    Regards,
    Chris

    Hi Chris,

I recall some ini file related bugs with older versions of HS. I believe those settings are all in the \config\settings.ini file. I would upgrade to at least .130.

    Cheers

I too lost all my HS3 settings recently after a restart; HS3 also decided to ignore my config file and revert to the default one.

There are many posts around losing settings. Some of them are probably caused by user error, but not all of them in my opinion.

I'm so frustrated with these repeating anomalies that I don't even bother gathering info and submitting a bugzilla anymore. I don't care and that's unfortunate because HS can't fix a problem if they don't here of it.

On the other hand, one has to wonder what kind of testing strategy is in place at HS before releasing a new version, whether that strategy is augmented with the findings of bugs reported and finally fixed.

Unfortunately, I don't see many reassuring statements from HS. There are 2 ways to push a product out the door:

1- Don't release the product until its QA meets some defined level of stability (by the way, that requires a detailed testing strategy)
2- Rush it out the door, get the licensing revenue and let the users do the final QA... and surf on your market position

      Maybe a poll on this?

P.S. Sorry for the emotional spin. I have another strange HS3 behavior that I'm trying to debug and, trying to look at the log over several days I realize the log display is still buggy (I had sumitted a Bugzilla on this one way back, can't even find it in Bugzilla anynore)

        Thanks Claude and Al,

I've just now upgraded to 130. Since I've been running HS3 "realtime" and rely on it for a number of months now I've kept away from Beta's.

I'll keep on eye out to see if the settings file changes again.

Did find a cute bug which I'll report: when you define a POP email password, in the settings.ini file its not saved in a coded format like the SMTP password.

        cheers!

          Hope it fixes it.

I reported the POP password in clear text bug a while ago. See http://bugzilla.homeseer.com/bugzill...ug.cgi?id=2188. Maybe add your name to it so it rises a bit closer to the top .

          Cheers
