    Groups are easier in Amazon

My wife wanted an "All Lights" group so she could tell Alexa to turn off "All Lights"

I was fussing with HS3 and trying to get BOTH the basic and the advanced skill running and I came across the AMAZON groups.

Amazon has its own groups of HS3 devices...

So I built an AMAZON group Called "All Lights"

    Now

"Alexa, turn All Lights Off" works just fine.

Still having trouble getting HS3 scripts to run under Alexa...says it can't find the event....

    But...one battle at a time...

Events are only supported by the "HomeSeer Home Automation" skill versus the basic "HomeSeer" skill.
One option is to create a virtual device that basically triggers an event when on or off. The basic HomeSeer skill will see that and by extension Alexa can be used to turn on or off that virtual device.
It's a little clunky since you can only use on and off type of commands instead of "run" type of commands which would be a bit more intuitive for an event.

      Yup...
we have BOTH type skills, basic and advanced.

      AND

      We are using Amazon Groups....

the only thing that is clumsy is the

"Alexa Tell HomeSeer to run Event Goodnight"

Still don't have events working smoothly

The event "Goodnight" is there, I just can't figure out how to have Alexa see it...

Is "Goodnight" being seen as two words?

Check the logs to see what the Echo thought you said.
