RC 80 not working on new com ports?

Has anyone run into this problem, I have 2 RC 80's, and they run great with my 336 AMD laptop serial port with Homeseer. I am moving my Homeseer to a new PC, and have tested the new comport, that works fine. I have tried to get the Thermostats to run with a USB to COM, and from the serial port on my DELL 8400 motherboard serial port. The thermostats don't even respond. Is there a compatibility issue with the new interfaces? Has anyone fixed this issue, or no of a fix.

I read about the person who had problems with the latest 2.0 plug in for it. So I uninstalled Homeseer and removed everything, reinstalled and just installed the old plug in.

    That did not work either.

Any Help would be greatly appreciated.

I have two rc 100's and I could never get them to run on any usb to serial port converters. They have to reside on an actual serial port. some explanations included that the voltage levels from a true serial port are -12 volts while the converters are around -9 volts which the thermostats dont like. I never bothered to throw an oscilloscope on it because I had a free com port on my motherboard.

      brianI,
Do your self a favor and order an edgeport. These are the only USB to com port device I have encountered that will work. I have yet to read one bad comment about one of these on this BB. These originally sold for over $300
