New Home Construction - Need Recommendations

I'm having a new home built, and of course, I'll be using HomeSeer as my primary home automation platform. Since I have the luxury of pre-planning and pre-wiring everything for this new home, I'd like to get some suggestions from everyone on what I'm wanting to do. Here's what I have planned:

    - HomeSeer Server - Running Linux on a VMWare VM Server (I currently do this, and it's working great)

    - Lighting Controls - ZWave switches, receptacles

    - HVAC - I prefer to use a standalone (not cloud/server based like Nest) thermostat. What wifi thermostat is recommended? I work for Bosch and can get employee discounts on the Bosch wifi thermostat, but think it's a cloud based system only.

    - Intrusion/Fire Alarm - The home will be pre-wired with all doors, windows, and motion sensors. What panel is recommended? Will the Tyco POWERSERIES PC1864 with the Eyez-On Envisalink EVL-4EZR be sufficient? It seems like I don't need to go overboard with the panel, as a lot of the intelligence will be handled by HomeSeer. Are there any Bosch panels that will work?

    - Whole Home Audio - I have an XAP800, but never hooked it up at my old house. That, in addition to amplifiers, and speakers... good enough? Recommendations?

    - TV - I have a Samsung TV, which we all know can't be controlled via IP, nor can you power it on remotely (even if it were IP controllable). I see that there's a plugin for Sony TV's. I do have some GlobalCache devices that I'll be using on some of my other, non "Smart TV's". I also have the MonoPrice 4x4 HDMI matrix ready to go as well.

    - IP Cameras - I'll be running IP cameras in to an NVR for archiving purposes. What do you all recommend for viewing them on in-wall touchscreen panels, or mobile devices?

    - In-wall touchscreen control panels - Need recommendations here! Since this is new construction, I want them to be flushed/recessed mounted, at least 7" screens. Anyone have any input on some of the Android units from Alibaba.com?

Additionally, I'll be using the following:

    UPS Plugin
    Weather Plugin
    Amazon Alexa Plugin
    Doorbird Plugin
    Energy Meter Plugin

If you were building a new house and adding automation, what's some of your "must have's"?

Take a look at the Elk M1 Gold alarm panel. There's also a plugin for this.

Can you please read through these threads here : https://forums.homeseer.com/search.php?searchid=8693960 ? There happens to be some similarities to some of the things you want to do.

      And : https://forums.homeseer.com/showpost...53&postcount=3
One I posted about TVs and AMPs

Read mostly about HDMI-Cec but if you must insist on controlling your TV over the network, it won't be for powering it on but everything else ===> Get yourself a raspberry PI and install Node-RED and MQTT on it (HomeSeer has 2 MQTT plugins) then look here : https://www.npmjs.com/package/node-r...rib-samsung-tv

Thanks! I like the HDMI-CEC suggestion. I am going to play around with that.

The link to the search you posted went to an error page.

What are some of the features in an alarm panel that I need to look for? The panels all seem to range widely in price from manufacturer to manufacturer. But, I'm sure it has some to do with features. I'm not well versed in intrusion panels.

I do want to have the ability to put a cellular SIM card in as a back-up means for sending alerts.

Does the Elk have advantages compared to DSC?

Fire tablets can be modified to access the google app store without rooting. I have one running imperihome. I'm sure the most common wall tablet is a fire tablet picked up when on sale.

With the wall open prewiring POE to power tablets is easy.

                    dmiller,

I can't speak for the DSC, but you can also look at the cocoontech forum http://cocoontech.com/forums/
there is quite a bit of information on their Home Security section on the Elk.

                      Hi,

If you are building your home, you have a real opportunity to really think about structured cabling before the drywall goes in.

For the small difference in cost I would go straight to CAT7 cables.

But, if your budget can stand it put in ducting so that in the future you can run more cables/ replace existing faulty ones without having to open anything up.
